Let’s Make a Garden Out of little luna’s the “wildflower woman”

little luna’s sophomore EP, the wildflower woman, is aptly named. Only such a title as “wildflower woman” could capture an artist- and an EP- as vibrant as this one. And we can tell you how she did it! As the EP came to life, she correlated each song with a different wildflower and color. That sounds like a challenge to us. So we decided to pick a flower for each song on the wildflower woman!

‘fool’

If laughing at things others don’t find funny or finding joy in what others don’t think is cool makes you a fool, then luna is happy to be called one. She’s finding her own path and freeing herself from any unwelcome expectations. The flower that represents freedom is the strelitzia, or the bird of paradise flower. With its petals going every which direction, it’s easy to imagine this flower is how luna feels dancing in her music video (which was created with an all-woman cast and crew!)

‘wildflower woman’

If you take nothing else from this EP, take the energy from the title track. the wildflower woman is about finding joy, and luna will find it wherever she goes. In ‘wildflower woman,’ she is learning to love and grow. So we think she’d relate to sunflowers, which symbolize long life and lasting happiness. She’s practically reaching for the sun throughout the song. Sunflowers are front and center on the album cover, too!

‘wouldn’t you say so?’

We think luna’s ’70s influences would be proud of this song. It immediately has cool girl energy and sounds like it could’ve come straight off a Fleetwood Mac album. When she asks the mysterious subject if they’re happy, she sounds almost accusatory. This direct display of her own strength and power perfectly aligns with the gladiolus. The gladiolus can be lots of colors, but we have to pick red for ‘wouldn’t you say so?’ It’s too electric to be anything else.

‘the rope’

Even though luna is all about finding happiness, she is not delusional. Life can be hard sometimes, and she wants to help everyone else find the love for life that she has. “Throw the rope, and I’ll go with you,” she sings. If you ask us, that sounds like a promise made in a pretty strong friendship. Luckily, yellow roses symbolize friendship.

‘to love you’

Spoiler: it’s another rose. In our defense, roses are the most romantic flower. Just like the title suggests, ‘to love you’ describes a deep love for someone. This love is so deep that luna spends the song “trying to find the words for how it feels to love” this person. We have a better way to tell them and the rest of the world. Buy them a bouquet of red roses!

‘enjoy the sun’

We feel like this song pulls together the wildflower woman perfectly. luna shows off her more vulnerable side as she appears to be healing from a difficult relationship. She’s throwing her worries away and looking instead towards the sun and towards the future. That sounds just like the daffodil, which symbolizes new beginnings and hopes for the future. ‘enjoy the sun’ is like stepping into a warm spring day after months of cold, which is when you would see your first daffodil!

‘garden (guided meditation)’

If you can guess, this one is not a song. It’s a twenty-five-minute guided meditation. This not only makes the perfect end to such a hopeful EP, but it also gives us one last flower to complete our wildflower bouquet. Lavender symbolizes peace, and we can’t think of a better word to describe little luna’s energy throughout the wildflower woman!

We think the wildflower woman herself would be proud of the collection of flowers we’ve put together. Do you agree with our picks? Let us know in the comments or on by tweeting us at @thehoneypop!
