If there’s one thing you guys know about us here at The Honey POP by now, it’s that we love a debut album! We’ve loved Winona Oak ever since we first covered her back for ‘Winter Rain.’ So to finally have a full-length album with thirteen songs feels like a dream sequence!
We’re truly fans of the entire record, but of course, we have our favorites! It’s only right that we break down our current top five with you guys!
Listen to Island Of The Sun here!
‘Island Of The Sun’
We a hundred percent can see why Winona Oak kicked off this album, bearing the same name, with ‘Island Of The Sun.’ ‘Island Of The Sun’ feels atmospheric in a way we often find ourselves craving with music. So if you need further clarification on why we’re super fans of Winona Oak, look no further than ‘Island Of The Sun.’
‘Happy You’re My Ex’
We are getting major Lorde-Melodrama Era vibes from ‘Happy You’re My Ex,’ and compliments don’t come in a higher form. Anyone who is fresh out of a relationship and feels like they’re living their best life will find themselves obsessed with ‘Happy You’re My Ex.’ There isn’t a song on this record that is easier to dance around your room to while screaming the words.
‘He Don’t Love Me’
‘He Don’t Love Me’ was our first taste of Winona Oak back in 2019, so seeing the track get its placement here on Island Of The Sun is so full circle! When it comes to switching up the mood from our last track, ‘He Don’t Love Me’ is one of the more “moody” tracks on this record, perfect for a night’s drive through a big city.
Ever since our first listen of Island Of The Sun, ‘Radio’ has been a standout track for us! We think ‘Radio’ has a completely different sound than any of the other tracks in the record, while still adding to the sense of the album as a whole being sonically cohesive.
Winona Oak is a musical genius, that’s the bottom line.
Picking the fifth song for this list felt like choosing a favorite child, but ‘NDA’ won out! We have found ourselves coming back to ‘NDA’ multiple times outside of full album listens, that’s the sign of an absolute banger.
Maybe it’s just us, but ‘NDA’ feels like a full-on read of what an A-list party in LA is like.
