Let’s Head To Cracker Island: Everything We Know About Gorillaz’s New Album

Our favorite virtual rockers are back – the legendary four-piece that is Gorillaz are gearing up to drop their eighth album, Cracker Island, in just a few months! They worked on this album in both London and Los Angeles, so you already know there’s gonna be a whole lot of diverse influences on the project.

Cracker Island is a concept album of sorts, as the Gorillaz head to California and try to unite people as The Last Cult, with the goal of changing humanity as we know it. You could argue that Gorillaz fans are already The Last Cult and get connected to each other by the music! But either way, we’re excited to see what this storyline brings.

Cracker Island is the sound of change and the chorus of the collective.

If you’re just as excited as we are, or if you’re trying to catch up on the news for this Gorillaz era, we’ve got you! Here’s everything we know about Cracker Island so far.

The Release

We’re gonna be listening to our Gorillaz playlists for a while because Cracker Island is coming out on February 24th, 2023! It seems like that’s ages away, but we’re sure they’ll drop a few new singles to keep us on our toes in the meantime. We already have the ‘Cracker Island’ title track with Thundercat and the recent single ‘New Gold’ with Tame Impala and Bootie Brown, so at least we have a bit of Cracker Island content for now!

When the reckoning comes, gotta be ready to step through the gateway. Cracker Island’s got the entry codes…

The Tracklist

Gorillaz has bagged some pretty impressive collabs over the years, but we think they might have outdone themselves this time around. From all-time legends like Stevie Nicks to rising legends like Bad Bunny, the guest list is stacked, and we’re obsessed. We’re also getting a new collab with Beck after he appeared on the band’s 2020 track ‘The Valley of the Pagans,’ and we can’t wait to see what that reunion brings!

  • ‘Cracker Island’ feat. Thundercat
  • ‘Oil’ feat. Stevie Nicks
  • ‘The Tired Influencer’
  • ‘Tarantula’
  • ‘Silent Running’ feat. Adeleye Omotayo
  • ‘New Gold’ feat. Tame Impala & Bootie Brown
  • ‘Baby Queen’
  • ‘Tormenta’ feat. Bad Bunny
  • ‘Skinny Ape’
  • ‘Possession Island’ feat. Beck

What a lineup, huh? We’re still not sure which track we wanna claim. There are just so many amazing choices. ‘Cracker Island’ and ‘New Gold’ have been on repeat for us, so those are strong contenders.

The path to Cracker Island isn’t easy to find ‘cos it’s underwater.

The Cover Art

Is it really a new Gorillaz album if there isn’t an incredible album cover to go along with it? We don’t think so! The cover of Cracker Island is already living in our minds rent-free, placing 2D, Murdoc, Russel, and Noodles in front of a creepy little house… presumably on Cracker Island. It’s giving us summer vacation-gone-wrong vibes, which just makes us even more excited to see what this album has to offer.
