Stop What You’re Doing and Watch Billie Eilish’s Apple Music Live!

We’ve known that Billie Eilish is a fantastic performer. She goes above and beyond in every show she puts out to make sure her fans are having a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Billie sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to reflect on the Happier Than Ever World Tour and to announce that her live performance at the O2 Arena in London is exclusively available now on Apple Music for her fans. In this interview, she reflected on growing up, her changing pre-show rituals, the self-reflection she had during the pandemic, and the importance of live shows to her as an artist.

On Growing Up In The Public Eye…

Billie has been under the scrutiny of the public eye since her early teens. Being a teenager is hard and it is even harder when the entire world is watching you. Everything Billie has done has been criticized and scrutinized for so long. Now as a young adult, she knows exactly who she is and does things the way she knows is right for her-not because someone tells her to do it.

I heard a thing that Emma Chamberlain said yeah recently where she was like, “It’s weird growing up in the public eye because people get to know you when you’re a teenager and that’s how they think you are, but then you grow up and they still think you’re that teenager.” So true. Oh my God, it’s so true.

On How Her Pre-Show Ritual Has Evolved …

Back in 2019, Billie badly injured her ankle and wasn’t able to perform on stage like she wanted. In the Apple Music interview, she expressed that back then she did not care about having a pre-show ritual. She did not really care about stretching or working out before her shows which caused her to have serious injuries. Now a self-proclaimed gym rat, Billie said that she felt better than ever both physically and mentally during the Happier Than Ever World Tour. We are very proud of her for taking care of her health during such an extreme schedule!

My live show, to me, is one of the most important parts of me as an artist, and the idea that there are people that know me as an artist and don’t know me live, freaks me out. But for me, my show and my just touring is… an extension of me as an artist. I kind of wish I was known mainly for my show in a way… Just performing is the thing that I have wanted to do more than anything else in my life and that’s the thing that I give the most with, I feel. It’s so important to me and I want people to have that.

On Why She’s Excited For Fans To Experience Her Apple Music Live Show…

Billie loves to interact with her fans. The fact that not all of her fans can see her live truly saddens her. But that’s why she is so excited to share a performance from her tour with everyone on Apple Music.

A lot of people didn’t get to see the show just because that’s how it works, and I’m so excited to give that to people. The shows that I didn’t get to see when I was younger, either couldn’t afford them or just didn’t get a chance, the idea that I would’ve been able to go and watch them professionally shot in a theater would’ve been my absolute dream.

On Being Inspired by Tyler, The Creator and The Neighbourhood’s Live Performances…

Billie felt true magic when she saw the performances of Tyler, The Creator and The Neighbourhood. And since then, she wants to recreate that feeling for her own fans. Billie knows what it feels to be a fan and that’s why she is so successful at connecting with her fans.

I mean, since the first concert I ever saw, which was The Neighbourhood, which was… Completely changed my life and my… I could talk about about The Neighbourhood for the next 10 years of my life straight, for real. That was the first show that I ever saw and I’ve essentially been trying to make my show feel the way that show felt since then.

On Finding Time For Self-Reflection During The Pandemic…

The pandemic was a shocking time for everyone, but it affected Billie in a deeper sense because she wasn’t able to do what she loves the most in life: performing. She was extremely scared that she wouldn’t get to tour again which is why the Happier Than Ever Tour was so important to her.

And especially with this kind of thing, my life had not stopped in any sense of the word for four years, and then suddenly stopped, and everybody’s stopped. And I was like, “Oh, okay. Let me actually think about what I’ve just experienced.”
