Binge-Worthy Buzz: What’s Buzzing On TV and Movies?

Hey, honeybees! Did y’all miss us? Good, because we’re back for another edition of Binge-Worthy Buzz, our series where each week we give you new recommendations of what to watch next. Be it on Disney+, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, or anywhere else, we’ll find the best picks and bring them over to you.

How I Met Your Father

Hilary Duff and company are back for another season of one of our favorite spin-offsHow I Met Your Father. Based on the iconic How I Met Your Mother, this show has Sophie as the main character telling her son about how she met his father, much like Ted Mosby does in the original show.

The catch here is: Sophie is a young woman in the 2020s trying to find her match, which means she lives in the age of dating apps. So, instead of meeting people just by chance at a pub like in HIMYM, Sophie has to navigate dating in modern times, with seemingly limitless options. With her close friends along for the ride as well, of course.

Extraordinary

In a world where superpowered people exist and not just that, everyone has a superpower from the time they turn 18, being “normal” isn’t exactly great. At least that’s what Jen thinks. Jen is a 25-year-old woman who never got a superpower and, as a result, feels like she’s behind everyone around her for it. Lucky for her, she has her roommates on her side to stop her from feeling too sorry for herself.

But that won’t stop Jen from going after her maybe-superpower. But, maybe, what she’ll end up finding might be even better than a superpower, and might help her see that she doesn’t need one to be awesome. Extraordinary is available on Hulu.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Whether you’ve been a fan of Dungeons & Dragons for years or you only learned what that was because of Stranger Things, we’re sure you’ll love this. There’s a movie coming out based on the game! Bringing the roleplaying dynamic of D&D to the big screen is such an awesome idea we can’t believe it’s actually happening. And with Chris Pine and Regé-Jean Page on the cast too!

As with any D&D campaign, our main characters are a party formed by bards, paladins, druids, barbarians, sorcerers, and more. But the one responsible for bringing this crew together is a charming thief. The adventurers spend the movie on a heist to retrieve a lost relic, but of course, their dungeon master just had to make it difficult for them, and they run into the wrong people. Good thing that only makes the story more entertaining for us, the audience. If you’re curious to see what this party is up to, head to the closest movie theater on March 31.

El Heredero: La Dinastía del Freestyle

Rap is a major part of the music scene and an integral part of many cultures, and with that in mind, we invite you to check out El Heredero: La Dinastía del Freestyle, a Hulu original which shows us five Freestyle World Champions from five different countries (Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Spain and Chile) as they become mentors in search of their successors.

As with any good story, there will be conflicts and friendships formed along the way as the docu-reality goes on for several episodes. The difference here is that while most reality shows focus solely on the competition, El Heredero also takes time to show the public who these people are away from it, what their life story is, and what took them into Freestyle and the show. We can’t wait to binge-watch all of it on Hulu.

Koala Man

What happens when a middle-aged man gains superpowers? He starts fighting petty crimes in his suburb, of course. That’s the story of Kevin, an Australian dad who also goes by the name of Koala Man. His power? A burning passion for following rules and keeping his town clean.

But our hero could never do this all on his own, so he often drags his family into his adventures as well. And even though they may not be too happy about it, they should know that their dad has a point. Their quiet little suburbs does, in fact, have some evil forces lurking around. And we’re not just talking about people who don’t take out the trash on the right day.

The Last of Us

If we didn’t talk about this one, you might consider us crazy, to be honest. HBO Max’s latest release is the adaptation of the popular video game The Last of Us into a TV series. The game was already a huge hit for its storytelling, which only made it even more spectacular to watch in the form of a series. But if gaming isn’t your thing, don’t worry, we know you’ll enjoy the series just the same! But on to what’s going on with the plot, shall we?

Episode 1 opens with an interview with scientists in the 80s where one of them mentions how the biggest threat to humanity may not be a virus or bacteria, but fungi, in case some form of it evolves to be able to infect people like it does insects. Wouldn’t you know, that’s exactly what happens in September 2003, when a sudden outbreak throws the world into a spiral. 20 years after that, there is still no end to the problem in sight and the US is living under a military dictatorship. This is the scenario our protagonists, Joel and Ellie, find themselves in. The show is available on HBO Max and has new episodes coming out every Sunday.

And this concludes this week’s Binge-Worthy Buzz. We hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as we did, and if you did, please tell us so! Come chat with us on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. We always love to hear from you!
