We Know Exactly Why Paramore’s This Is Why Crowns The UK & Australian Charts!

The release of Paramore’s sixth studio album This Is Why has been climbing. Climbing our playlist, our minds – we can’t stop singing “this is why I don’t leave the house” – and the charts.

Following its release on February 10th, the album has officially crowned the top spot in the UK and Australian charts. This marks the band’s third #1 in both countries, and it doesn’t stop there! The pop-punk album has rightfully positioned at #1 on the Billboard top album sales, and #2 on the Billboard 200. Likewise, they recently achieved their first #1 on Alternative Radio.

Fronted by Haley Williams, an icon and advocate for abortion rights, the American band has solidified their name. We can’t believe Paramore are already two decades into their career. Although this album marks the close of Paramore’s contract with the label Atlantic Records, this does not mark the end!

This Is Why is a powerful album reflecting world changes. The alt-rock 10-track project is the bands first full-length album since the release of After Laughter in 2017. With influences like Foals and Bloc Party, the combination of funky guitar and catchy hooks makes for a recipe for success!

Their newest music video for the single ‘Running Out of Time’ is an ode to the challenge of juggling our limited time. The line ‘Shoulda, coulda, wouldn’t matter, an ultimate Albi’ had us absolutely shocked! This is why the Rolling Stone UK celebrates Paramore as remaining “as vital as ever”.

Our Favourite Lyrics

The band produces lyrics and music that we find just as powerful today as we did in our early teens listening to Riot! It’s safe to say a lot has happened throughout the past 20 years, and Paramore have been the soundtrack.

Amongst the waterfall of tracks, there are a few lyrics that significantly stood out to us. The track ‘Liar’ takes us through Hayley’s denial and internal battle for falling in love with her band member Taylor York. The raw lyric “love is not an easy thing to admit, but I’m not ashamed of it” had our heads spinning on the first listen. Putting emotions to paper is not easy and this only highlights how talented Paramore are.

Similarly, the song ‘Crave’ touches on the topic of reality versus dreams. We adore the lyric “‘Live in the presentI’m already dreaming on how it begins and trying to savour the moment but I know the feeling will come to an end. Paramore are always capturing the truth behind a rollercoaster reality. They remind us nothing lasts forever and that living in the moment is a simple distraction. This is a unique and interesting take on trends that encourage us to romanticize our lives.

As a result of Paramore’s vulnerable and introspective lyrics which resonate with fans, they have cemented their status as one of the most successful acts in alternative music. Alongside, boundaries are consistently pushed in their lyrics. A product of the pandemic and unsettling stories on tv, the song ‘The News’ felt like a punch from reality. The line “every second our collective heart breaks, shut your eyes but it won’t go away” reminds us of small privileges and the truth of life outside our doors.

Praise for Paramore.

Paramore’s newest album This Is Why has been met with critical acclaim along with commercial success. Rightfully named “one of the most influential bands of their generation” by The Guardian, the group continues to break records. In addition, Paramore broke 10 world records in a previous music video and continue to inspire a younger generation of listeners and artists with their music.

“An outstanding return.”
