If you haven’t already marked September 8th as one of the most important days in the fangirl universe this year, you better! Our favorite pop queen is releasing her sophomore album, GUTS. Yes, Olivia Rodrigo is finally releasing more music since her award-winning album SOUR was released back in 2021. Amidst our perpetual replay of songs on SOUR (let’s be honest, when do we ever hit pause?), meticulously curating our purple OOTDs for the release week, swooning over her iconic tour fits, and painting our nails a bold black (or, a fiery red) – it’s safe to say we’re living our best life as an Olivia Rodrigo fan. So, we’re presenting five Olivia Rodrigo songs to get you excited for GUTS.
‘Vampire’
We’re starting strong with ‘Vampire,’ the debut single from GUTS. In this song, Olivia leaps from dreamy minimalism into a world of brutal honesty and maturity fueled with intensity. This track doesn’t just ask for attention; it commands it. The lyrics have us alternating between amused grins and jaw-dropping disbelief at her unfiltered honesty. Ultimately, ‘Vampire‘ represents Olivia’s refined sound and showcases her masterful storytelling in a way that remains youthful. Simply put, it should be at the top of everyone’s playlist.
‘bad idea right?’
It’s never a bad idea to have this song on your playlist. ‘bad idea right?‘ is loaded with teenage angst with an infectious beat that makes us all feel like the main character. Olivia never misses, and this track has us belting our hearts out in front of the mirror, red lipstick in hand. We’re anticipating more of this tongue-in-cheek narrative in more songs on the GUTS album. It’s like an inner dialogue – playful, witty, and truthful. So, consider this gutsy song as a must-listen to build up the excitement for the release of GUTS.
‘Jealousy, Jealousy’
Within the SOUR album, ‘Jealousy, Jealousy’ is a bold song full of relatable passion and fierce beats. This track aligns seamlessly with Olivia’s recent drops, making it the perfect hype-builder for the upcoming album. If we had to visualize this song, we’d paint it red. The color red is a recurring motif in the GUTS visualizers. So, we expect some fun parallels between ‘Jealousy, Jealousy’ and a few new songs on the upcoming album.
‘Favorite Crime’
Olivia’s storytelling is an art we can’t, and will never, get enough of. ‘Favorite Crime’ is a perfect example; it’s delicate and raw, with lyrics that’ll give you goosebumps with every listen. At The Honey POP! we love the lyrics “I watched as you fled the scene, Doe-eyed as you buried me, One heart broke, four hands bloody.” Within this song, Olivia paints a vivid picture in our minds and tells a story we can see through listening. With new tracks on the horizon, we’re eagerly anticipating more of Olivia’s brilliant lyricism.
‘Brutal’
The opening song to Olivia’s debut album, ‘Brutal’ is gloriously messy and fiery – in the best way. This song paints the character that accompanies us throughout the album’s journey. The track explores the relentless struggle we can all relate to because, let’s face it, the world is pretty brutal. This quick, experimental song is your go-to for singing along, line by line. We anticipate a surge of similar angst and intense instrumentals with the new upcoming tracks. That’s why ‘Brutal’ should be your ultimate song and taste of excitement awaiting the release of GUTS.
Olivia is on repeat, all day, every day. And soon, we’ll have even more tracks to enjoy and we could not be ‘Happier.’ How are you preparing for the new GUTS era? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @thehoneypop!
