If you’ve been living under a rock, allow us to catch you up. Basically, Olivia Rodrigo is one of the biggest pop acts in the world, and that success is not just contained to the global smash that was her debut album, SOUR. Even in just the two short weeks since ‘vampire,’ the first single from the GUTS era, has been out, it’s very clear that the track is leaving its permanent mark in pop culture. From trending on TikTok to being played quite literally everywhere all the time, to going number one on Billboard (!!!!!), there is truly no slowing down Olivia Rodrigo.
A lot of people feared that following SOUR up would be a daunting task, but of course, when you’ve come to know your audience, the general public, and yourself as an artist as well as Olivia has, continued success comes naturally. To celebrate Olivia’s number one, and in sticking with the theme of the GUTS era, we thought we’d countdown the three tracks that feel like a straight punch to the GUTS every time we listen.

‘happier’
Let’s be real; the line “I hope you’re happy, but don’t be happier” in itself is heartbreaking. The moving on that inevitably comes is one of the hardest things about a breakup, especially when it isn’t mutual. Which, if the pure pain in this track is anything to go by, seems to be the case. We remember the first time we heard ‘traitor,’ and we instantly knew that Olivia Rodrigo was able to tap into emotions that we were feeling and unable to express ourselves.

‘traitor’ is meant to be screamed at the top of our lungs; there’s simply no other way to listen. Even though we are in our 20s, that heartbroken teenage angst comes back to the surface every time we turn ‘traitor’ on. The line “You didn’t cheat, but you’re still a traitor” is so powerful. When we hear that, it’s like we are seventeen on the bathroom floor, wondering what we did to deserve this heartbreak too.
Invoking those emotions is something so special, and we love Olivia Rodrigo so much for it!
‘enough for you’
Rounding out the list is ‘enough for you,’ which might just be the most heartbreaking track of the bunch. Not feeling enough is the most soul-crushing feeling. The way Olivia Rodrigo describes this relationship takes us back to a time when we felt the same, and maybe for some of us, it’s not a flashback but a look at the present. We haven’t heard such an honest reflection of a broken love like this in so long.
