Here’s How K-POP Took The 2023 BBMAs By Storm

This weekend saw the Billboard Music Awards 2023 take place, and what a star-studded show it was! As well as Mariah Carey’s debut award show performance of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and Taylor Swift‘s massive 10 award sweep, we saw a good share of K-POP at this year’s awards. Let’s check out which of our faves were celebrated at the 2023 BBMAs…

‘OMG!’ NewJeans Smashed Their US Award Show Debut

It’s no secret to anyone that 2023 has been an incredible year for NewJeans. They’ve achieved so much within their first year of debut and become global icons! The quintet gave a stunning performance of two of their biggest hits, ‘Super Shy’ and ‘OMG.’ From their stunning outfits, incredible formation, and killer vocals, we’re fairly confident that our girls turned the BBMAs audience in person and at home into Bunnies!

The rookie girl group went on to win Top Global K-POP Artist award, making us so proud! During their speech, Hanni paid tribute to their strong competition in the category, saying: “We have been nominated in this category alongside such incredible artists we look up to. It’s an honor in itself. We are so grateful for this opportunity to perform at the Billboard Music Awards.” They’re truly taking the world by storm!

Jungkook Takes Home Top Global K-POP Song

Our golden maknae just keeps on smashing it! Although Jungkook was unable to attend this year’s BBMAs, he did win the award for Top Global K-POP Song for ‘Seven’ featuring Latto. The single was his debut as a solo artist and also scored him a number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Not only that, it also earned the the title of Global Song of the Summer by Billboard.

In his video acceptance speech, Jungkook shared his love and appreciation for ARMY: “It’s truly an honor. It’s very hard to express my gratitude in words. Thank you, ARMY, and everyone who loved this song; I couldn’t have got this amazing award.” Jungkook’s Golden era has been nothing short of just that and we are so proud!

Stray Kids Prove They Are Indeed ‘S-Class’

Stray Kids made their return to the US music award scene at the BBMAs and gave a star-studded performance that will be one to remember. The two-song stint kicked off with ‘S-Class,’ with members donning military-styled outfits as they performed the iconic choreography before the jaw-dropping dance break transition saw the members really show off strong choreography in units. The showcase then broke into the rock version of their title track ‘LALALALA’ from their latest album ROCK-STAR, a truly energetic and in-your-face performance that had us on a high!

Stray Kids went on to win the Top K-POP Album Award for 5-Star, which topped the Billboard 200 back in June before spending a total of 16 weeks on the chart. Speaking on behalf of the group, leader Bang Chan dedicated their win to STAY: “We would like to thank all of our STAYs and all the Stray Kids everywhere all around the world. Without the love and support from everyone, we would probably not have made it this far, and if wasn’t for the people that have been running by our side this whole time, the music that we create would not have been able to reach the people in need.”

“So us, Stray Kids, would like to say thank you to STAY and Billboard for giving us an unforgettable gift. We promise to return the favor with our upcoming music, performances, and love.” WE’RE NOT CRYING, YOU ARE!

BLACKPINK Win K-POP Touring Artist For Born Pink

BLACKPINK also took home an award from the BBMAs for Top K-POP Touring Artist with their Born Pink World Tour. The tour of 66 concerts spanned across 34 cities in 22 countries with over 1.8 million fans in attendance, therefore earning it the record of the most-attended concert series by a K-POP girl group. BLACKPINK will always be in our area!
