It’s been only a bit over a month since Xdinary Heroes served us one of the best releases of the year with their first full-length album, Troubleshooting. And believe it or not, Xdinary Heroes keep the high with a brand new song as a digital single, ‘Boy Comics.’
‘Boys Comics’
‘Boy Comics’ was written by all the members of Xdinary Heroes in collaboration with Hong Jisang. He has worked with them in the past in songs such as ‘Dreaming Girl’ and ‘Night of Fireworks,’ as well as with DAY6 and Stray Kids. Needless to say, we knew just by looking at the credits that ‘Boy Comics’ would be incredible. And they didn’t let us down at all. Positioning itself on the more rock side of Xdinary Heroes‘ discography, ‘Boy Comics’ has a similar sound to J-Rock with its striking energy. The lyrics and the power in their vocals give off ambition and perseverance as they sing about reaching their dreams. ‘Boy Comics’ is not only addictive and youthful, but it’s also that type of song that makes you feel invincible.
Xdinary Heroes have always been inventive with their music videos. They’ve given us unique and memorable imagery with every comeback. And with ‘Boy Comics,’ they once gave us their most fun music video yet. In a school setting, we see the fun ways a girl tries over and over to get in time to the cafeteria to get a strawberry cake – obviously as a node to their iconic song, ‘Strawberry Cake.’ It’s filled with fun, quirky scenes and comic-inspired aesthetic. This setting also gives Xdinary Heroes as a band in school in an alternative universe, which is always fun to us.
Open ♭eta v6.1
But actually, ‘Boy Comics’ is part of a two-song digital single. The second song in Open ♭eta v6.1 is a bit of a mystery to us. ‘XH_winds_75’ is a nearly 30-second instrumental track… and honestly, it slaps. ‘Boy Comics’ is the first in several releases Xdinary Heroes has planned for the rest of the year, so we can only wish (and suspect?) that ‘XH_winds_75’ is a teaser for their next digital single. If ‘Boy Comics’ proved anything, you never know with Xdinary Heroes, but we’ll be seated for anything that comes our way from them.
