Calling all Bridgerton fans! If you love a diverse cast but don’t want to give it up for the allure of a historical setting, then we have the perfect new book release. Rebel Heiress by Amalie Howard checks all our boxes, and we can tell it’ll check all of yours, too!
Rebel Heiress is the final book in The Diamonds series, an anti-historical Regency romance series starring a BIPOC cast. It has a star-crossed romance between Rosalin “Roz” Chen, a young heiress who disguises herself to attend an all-male university, and Tariq St. Clair, her incredibly handsome and intelligent math tutor.
This novel follows Queen Bee and Lady Knight, which we highly recommend reading before diving into book three. But for now, here are three of many reasons why we love Amalie Howard’s Rebel Heiress!

Book Overview: Rebel Heiress
Summary: Lady Rosalin Chen isn’t as vapid as she pretends to be. She’s actually a computing genius and smarter than most of her peers in the ton. Not even her friends know that she’s been sabotaging her own chances to find a match in the marriage mart.
She’s in want of a proper education, not a husband. So while her cousin is gallivanting around Europe, she decides to take his place at Cambridge University. How hard could it be to act like a gentleman, after all?
The only boy who could possibly see through her disguise is her tutor—sharp-eyed math prodigy Tarik St. Clair. The more time they spend together, the harder it becomes to hide who she really is. Even if Lady Rosalin decided to come clean, can love ever be part of the equation once the truth is factored in?
Rosalin’s Double Life
To start, we have to respect Rosalin’s hustle in Rebel Heiress. While her cousin Ansel is on a grand tour, across Europe she enrolls in his place at Cambridge for the term. She attends lectures and completes schoolwork during the week. Then she returns to London during weekends for social events and other commitments as a lady. She’s booked and busy, yet she maintains her disguise like a pro. Granted, there were times when Roz would slip up or almost forget about her secret identity. But she’d dig her way out every time, and we love that about her.
Roz & Tariq’s Shared Interests
Another thing we love about Rebel Heiress is how much Roz and Tariq just get each other. From their first tutoring session, we could tell that they were made to be together. Their shared love of astronomy, mathematics, and problem solving is so endearing. Like the way they can make such obscure scholarly references knowing that the other will understand completely. They are equals in intellect, even when their statuses aren’t. Both characters’ intellect also lends itself to the banter, which we adored. We honestly didn’t know how romantic math could be until we read this book.
The Found Family
Finally, Roz’s family, actual and found, are delightful to read in Rebel Heiress. Her relationship with her parents and cousin is so open and loving, despite the secrets she keeps. Roz doesn’t hesitate to ask them for help when the situation gets dire. Then her best friends, Ela and Zia, both support and cover for her in so many ways. (You’ll love them in the first two books!) But most of all, we love Roz’s found family from the university: Will, Klaus, Kristof, and Harold. The Trinity boys help her acclimate to uni life, giving her a safe space. And it’s nice to see that doesn’t change, even when her true identity comes to light.
From the charming and diverse romance to the endearing found family, we could read and reread Amalie Howard’s Rebel Heiress all day!
