Here at The Honey POP, we’ve been raving about up-and-coming indie artist, Dylan! We introduced you to her back last month and then headed to her EP launch party, before even including her in ‘Fresh Music Friday’! We really think she’s got what it takes to become one of your faves to stan. We caught up with Dylan to chat all things ‘Purple’, the meaning behind her pseudonym and which fellow indie artist she’d love to tour with.

Hey Dylan! Congrats on your new ‘Purple’ EP! What can you tell us about the process of creating it?
The 5 songs on purple were basically the first 5 songs I wrote in my genre. I’ve been writing for a long time but after I wrote ‘Drinking About You’ I was like damn that’s the kinda music I want to make. Me and a producer called Will Hicks basically sat in the studio for the last year really trying to define who I am as an artist and I think the EP describes it perfectly.
We already feel like we know so much about you! Listening to the EP now, which song do you feel your audience will connect with the most?
I have no idea. If I had to choose probably ‘Sour Milk’ because everyone has tricky shit in relationships; especially young people as we’re just figuring out how to feel and what feelings are.
Amen to that! What does the color purple signify to you?
Purple basically signifies the stage I was at in my life when I first started writing the EP. I was in quite a weird space and purple being a very dark and mysterious color yet vibrant at the same time, matched it. It’s the mood for all the songs.
You’ve been played on Radio 1, just released an EP and have a couple of gigs coming up, so the end of 2019 is looking pretty good for you! But is there anything about the music industry that scares you?
I think people have misrepresented the music industry as this terrifying pool of sharks. But it’s not the 90s anymore, everyone I’ve met has been amazing. If anything they should be scared of me lol.
Well, that’s good to know! So Dylan is just your stage name – what made you pick a pseudonym and how did the name come about?
In all honesty, I was bored of being insecure and not confident about what I was doing. I created Dylan so I had an outlet to be the person I wanted to be. Plus, it’s what my parents we’re gonna call me if I was a boy.
Well, we think it sounds dope. If you were to create a playlist that describes your sound and musical influence to perfection, what songs would 100% be included?
‘Quits’ by Flume, ‘Pray For Me’ (ft Kendrick Lamar) by The Weeknd, ‘Video Games’ by Lana Del Ray, ‘Green Light’ by Lorde, ‘Firefly’ by Mura Masa… I mean I could go on for days
If you could pick an artist to support on tour whose fans share a similar taste to your music style, who would it be?
At the moment, Lauv. I think the music is in the same genre but sonically it’s very different so I think it would work very well.
Great choice! We’d get tickets to that show hands down! When taking time out of working hard on music, what can you be found doing to unwind or for kicks?
If I’m not writing, I’m trying to find something to write about. And that, my friends, is all my life consumes of.
Okay, mood. What’s one milestone you would love to achieve within the next 3 years?
I really, really (and I cannot stress this enough) really want to play Wembley Stadium. I don’t care if it’s as a support act it’s all I’ve ever dreamed about.
We believe you’ll get there! What do you hope the people listening to your EP will take from it?
‘Purple’ is just the beginning – I want people to interpret the context of the songs however they like. It’s not for me to tell people how to feel I just want people to feel empowered by the songs. I want my fans to gain control in whatever situation they’re in.
Incredible! Thanks, Dylan – we can’t wait to see what you do next.
