Fresh Music Friday: Macklemore, Rebecca Black and More!

Fresh Music Friday is here and has the most stacked lineup possible! We aren’t going to waste any time with a long intro, so let’s just get into it!

Lukas Graham – 4 (The Pink Album)

We are kicking off Fresh Music Friday with one of our favorite artists to highlight, Lukas Graham! Lukas is an artist who puts the most amount of art into everything he creates and who has been blowing our minds since the moment we first heard ‘7 Years.’ 4 (The Pink Album) is a perfect culmination of an absurd amount of talent and of a deep understanding of the art of making a song that is going to genuinely touch people. Our favorite track of the bunch is ‘Home Movie’ featuring the incredible force that is Mickey Guyton.

Dizzy – ‘Birthmark’

Falling in love with artists we hadn’t previously dove into is one of our favorite parts of Fresh Music Friday, and that’s exactly what happened here with Dizzy. ‘Birthmark’ has been on a loop since we first did our listen-through. Such a stellar alt-pop track, which is a genre we just eat up!

Emei – ‘That Girl’

Emei is the moment, you heard it hear first! ‘That Girl’ is the perfect angsty pop track that we are always on the hunt for. If you’re a fan of artists like Olivia Rodrigo, you’re going to eat this track up! Aside from ‘That Girl’ being a smash, the music video is beyond incredible! For the usage of color to what we think may be a Risky Business shoutout with the dancing in a long white button-down, we’re very into everything happening here!

Rebecca Black – ‘Sick To My Stomach’

We are officially only less than a month out from our girl Rebecca Black’s debut album, Let Her Burn, and our excitement can’t be contained! Here on Fresh Music Friday, we have been Rebecca Black champions forever, and that’s not changing! ‘Sick To My Stomach’ is the latest offering off the upcoming album, and we feel like this track proves that Rebecca really does know the perfect formula for making an alt-pop track. We can already see this track making year-end lists for us, it’s that serious.

gnash – four

gnash has been doing something that we love so much, which is dropping double droplet singles monthly, and this time we have ‘Rainbow’ and ‘The Art of Letting Go.’ Now, gnash is no stranger to Fresh Music Friday, we have always loved the art he was making but with these monthly releases, it feels like he’s honing in on exactly who he wants to be as an artist. We feel like ‘The Art of Letting Go’ is going to be a song that a lot of people latch on to.

Leanna Firestone – Public Displays of Affection

Leanna Firestone has been an artist that we simply can’t get enough of ever since we heard her tease ‘You Just Didn’t Like Me That Much’ on TikTok! Now, that track acts as the lead single from her newest EP, Public Displays of Affection, which we can already guarantee we will have on repeat until further notice. We feel seen within Leanna’s music, and that’s something rare and beautiful to find in an artist.

‘Right Person, Right Time’ is our favorite track on the record. We have been waiting for this song to be released for so long now!

Sam Smith – ‘Gloria’

Sam Smith is a visionary in the music industry. They’ve been constantly wowing us since their debut release, and somehow just keep getting better?! ‘Gloria’ is such a beautiful piece of art that truly feels so deeply personal to Sam, which in turn is going to make it so personal to fans.

We can hardly wait for how emotionally destroyed we are going to be when Gloria, the album, comes out on January 27th!

Story of the Year – ‘War’

Between the actual song that is ‘War’ and the music video, we can’t decide which to gush about first! This music video may just take the cake as our favorite of the year so far. Incredibly shot and genuinely enjoyable, we have rewatched it multiple times. Now for the song itself, ‘War’ is a standout track in Story of the Year’s discography, in our humble opinion. We are anxiously awaiting the full record, Tear Me To Pieces, which will be released on March 10th!

Macklemore ft. DJ Premier – ‘HEROES’

Listen, we are Macklemore stans through and through. His music has always perfectly mastered the art of balance between just having a good ass time and coming from such a self-reflective place to being relevant social commentary. ‘HEROES,’ which is the newest track we’re hearing off of his upcoming record, Ben, may just be one of our favorite tracks Macklemore has released in a few years. This track has those funky vibes that the likes of ‘Downtown’ have while still feeling like a fresh sound.

This is truly the return of the Mack.

Kid Culture – ‘Keep It’

Listen, if an artist can produce pop ear candy like ‘Yummy,’ by Justin Bieber, then that is an artist that we will jump to support. Kid Culture is breaking into making music of his own with ‘Keep It,’ and truly, we couldn’t have ended this week’s Fresh Music Friday on a higher note. ‘Keep It’ is a stellar debut track, we are sensing huge things are in store for Kid Culture.
