After all, it is a masterpiece crafted and born from tragedy and loss, as well as a powerful nod to what music can do. We’re sure we’re not alone in saying that music can be the best medicine when you need healing.

And But Here We Are does just that, for the band and for the fans. Losing Taylor Hawkins was a true tragedy, but we all unite in memory of him with this album.

It’s safe to say that we’ve listened to But Here We Are on repeat since its release. Every single song on this album is an emotionally-toned anthem destined to be on all of our playlists. We’ve selected a few that contain lyrics that touched our hearts from the very first listen to show you. Some of them even brought tears to our eyes.

‘But Here We Are’

There was no way this wasn’t going on our list. The lyrical content in this song is powerful, and the execution hits us hard. ‘But Here We Are’ is both a tribute and a hearty goodbye. Not only that, but it’s also a clear message to unite during the darkest of hours to be there for one another.

Save your shiny little charms
Take ‘em off, take ‘em off
Faith, wish upon a star
Here we are, here we are
Hey, lay your burden down
Turn around, turn around
Fate written in the stars
Arm in arm, arm in arm we are forever

‘The Glass’

A strong, direct hit to our hearts. We can clearly see in the lyrics of ‘The Glass’ that this is a direct message to a lost loved one. The lyrics certainly speak to us in that way, and we can’t help but get a little teary-eyed.

I had a vision of you
And just like that
I was left to live without it
Left to live without it
I found a version of love
And just like that
I was left to live without it
Left to live without it

‘Rest’

Grab the tissues—the whole pack. ‘Rest’ starts and ends like the most beautiful lullaby, and throughout it, we can feel our hearts swell and our eyes well. Emotional and powerful, this is the final track on the album. It is like a final goodbye.

Had another dream of us
In the warm Virginia sun
There I will meet you
