If there’s one thing we’re sure about, it’s that Purple Kiss is always coming out with some of the best songs of the year. ‘Sweet Juice‘ was one of our favorite K-Pop title tracks last year, and ‘7HEAVEN‘ is still on repeat. And Purple Kiss have done it again with ‘BBB’ and BXX. This is their first comeback of 2024, and they’re already serving us some of the best music, concepts, aesthetics, vocals, raps, and everything you would want and more from a K-Pop release.
‘BBB’
Something Purple Kiss always manage to do perfectly is mixing up a dark concept with fun. They did it with songs such as ‘Zombie,’ and they’re doing it again with ‘BBB.’ This new title track has a 2000s mainstream hip-hop vibe, yet it feels refreshing, and the bass line makes it even more addictive. It’s confident and bold as they sing about embracing their bad side and bad behaviors.
And while the spoken chorus and its production give such a fun energy to the song, giving it groove and making it more addictive, the song’s biggest highlight has to be the pre-chorus. Purple Kiss are incredible vocalists; their vocals shine even more with this pre-chorus. It’s simply pop excellence – everyone should listen to ‘BBB’ even solely based on that pre-chorus. Btu believe us, everything about this song is top tier.
We always love the way Purple Kiss bring their music to life. The aesthetics in ‘BBB’ are once again to die for. They manage to translate the fun yet bold energy of the song into a music video. It feels bright and unserious, but it still has that darkness and edginess to it. They truly nailed this concept, and not many could do it like Purple Kiss.
BXX
Purple Kiss always gives us some of the most addictive title tracks, but they always accompany that with gorgeous b-sides. And BXX gave us exactly that. It’s another incredible addition to their discography.
Of course, BXX starts, in classic Purple Kiss fashion, with an intro: ‘Intro: Crush.’ It grabs your attention from the first second with its bubble sound. And indeed, this intro goes into a bubbly pop sound that feels refreshing and fun. Now, if you loved ‘Pretty Psycho‘ as much as we did, ‘BITTER SWEET’ will be the b-side for you. It has everything to be a club banger, and it’s a style that fits them perfectly.
‘Toy Boy’ is a R&B pop song that feels more lowkey, but it serves its name well as this song is very fun and quirky. ‘Heart Attack,’ on the other hand, is a groovy love song. Their vocals shine as they make this pop song sound so delicate, pretty, and magical – it really gives out the effect of falling in love. BXX comes to an end with ‘Voyager,’ aka pop perfection. It is the slowest song in the mini-album, but ‘Voyager’ is more of a hopeful and emotional song that you would blast in the car in a road trip. It embodies the feeling of nostalgia when closing a chapter and having a new beginning. It’s already a gem in their discography. And the entirety of BXX just reaffirms our love for Purple Kiss and their amazing music.
