After getting quite the introduction to ATEEZ’s new musical chapter with GOLDEN HOUR: Part.1, we are now deep diving into its next installment, GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2. And, holy musicality, we are so not okay. The global phenomenon continues to show that there are still sides of them we are yet to experience. GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2 gives us a taste of a new ATEEZ sound, all the while making sure we’ll go, “Ah, this is definitely ATEEZ’s music,” with each song.
Listen to GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2.
‘Ice On My Teeth’
Do we ever know what to expect from ATEEZ, be it title tracks or B-sides? No, not really, but that’s part of the fun of being an ATINY. One thing is for sure, though: their music always slaps. ‘Ice On My Teeth’ makes us lose our minds in the best ways possible.
First of all, we think we need to mention the melody as it’s an experience of its own. The sound this title track offers is definitely new and going to leave a mark. The members’ vocals smoothly match the dark aura, showing a cooler, more chill yet mature vibe to them. And they don’t miss the chance to transfer that vibe into their music video.
Yunho starting the song in such an iconic way already makes ‘Ice On My Teeth’ unforgettable. Meanwhile, Hongjoong and Mingi leave us absolutely amazed with their parts as usual. And later, when Jongho enters the song at just the right moment with just the right tone, he manages to smoothly transition the feel, giving it a more epic aura. Yet, we never lose the dramatic atmosphere that ‘Ice On My Teeth’ offers. We mentioned smooth a few times already, and we’re about to do it again, this time in regards to that fantastic choreography. We also can’t stress enough how obsessed we are with Wooyoung’s whole look and dance moves during his center parts. Or how Yeosang and Seonghwa completely reign during their parts. Or when San…
There are a lot of memorable moments in both the song and the music video. We feel we might end up writing an essay if we went deeper into it. And we are still trying to comprehend how ATEEZ manage to constantly leave us speechless and, at the same time, with so many words. This statement is but a simple fact and does not only apply to their videos or main album tracks. It also spreads to all their side tracks, and we have the proof right here.
GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2 B-Sides Go Beyond Expectations
You know, we always wonder what a song would look like when performed Live. So, it’s no surprise that we think about the new B-sides on ATEEZ‘s album shown on stage. The octet never disappoints when it comes to performances. In fact, they effortlessly leave us with our jaws dropped. This is probably us thinking ahead, but we just can’t help but imagine what the new GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2 songs would look like on the stages. Perhaps we’ll get the chance to experience that, but until then, we’ll be more than happy to stream them over and over.
Each song stands out with its specific atmosphere and message. ATEEZ B-sides are on a tier of their own, and we know to always make sure and give them a listen. And this time, we wanted to give each one a spotlight of its own.
‘DEEP DIVE’
Honestly, we didn’t expect ‘DEEP DIVE’ to hit the way that it did. It’s the very first song on GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2, and it’s wrecking us on an emotional level. The song may give us a more chill kind of vibe, but its lyrics are something else. The way they describe anxiety so well, calling it something so familiar to the point of knowing how to deal with it and even swim through it, if you will. We are so emotional when we listen to ‘DEEP DIVE,’ easily making it one of our favorite tracks. We simply love songs that go this vulnerable.
‘Scene 1: Value’
In our opinion, ‘Scene 1: Value’ may just be the perfect way to transition from ‘DEEP DIVE’ into ‘Ice On My Teeth.’ It feels so smooth as it leads us to the title track of this album. It starts with a gentle yet mysterious and somewhat dark melody, moving into a rhythmic beat. Without realizing it, this short piece comes to an end, and we are suddenly not ready to let it go.
‘Man on Fire’
‘Man on Fire’ starts by basically explaining the song with a few words: “I’m losing control, I’m losing my mind, I’m losing myself.” This feels like a hint of how intense the message of this track is. It talks about the type of love that is so strong, it makes you lose yourself to it. We believe it is further emphasized with lyrics like, “I’d walk into these flames if it’s for you,” and “Need you so bad, want you so bad.” In addition, the execution by ATEEZ is done admirably. The parts with lower tones are placed smart in a few key points of the song to give us goosebumps for just the right experience.
‘Selfish Waltz’
Hongjoong and Mingi let their lyric-writing abilities shine once again on this album. And we have to admit: we were quite curious about how ‘Selfish Waltz’ would turn out in particular. It not only features the two rappers in the writing process, but it also lists Hongjoong as part of the composing and arranging theme. The verdict? It’s a masterpiece; no arguments about that. The song feels so well polished, from its melody to its delivery and all the way to the lyrics.
ATEEZ touch on the topic of relationships in this track, talking about the feeling that is already dulled, like something repetitive and trapping. We are impressed with the comparison of this kind of toxic relationship to the waltz. While it has a beautiful staging, ‘Selfish Waltz’ draws an analogy using the steps of this dance. The end of a complete waltz circle is right at its beginning, showcasing the loop that the relationship is in and the feeling of confinement it presents. This is a beautifully written piece, and we honestly expected nothing less from our talented captain.
‘Enough’
The final piece that completes and also wraps ATEEZ‘s GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2 is ‘Enough.’ We had a feeling this song would come for us when we first heard its preview, and we were correct. And it’s in the brightest way possible. It’s that feel-good track that we need in our lives. ATEEZ hype us up through ‘Enough,’ and we can’t help but get a little emotional. Their music will always be there when we need it, just one button, one click, or one thought away. If you need a little pull back into the light, ATEEZ’s ‘Enough’ is the piece you need to play.
ATEEZ take it to another level with GOLDEN HOUR : Part.2. Each song is unique and brings its own vibe, all the while blending together so well to create one complete album. After taking a closer look at each piece from this release, we find it even harder to pick a favorite. That just shows how distinguished this album is.
