Remember those childhood games where you’d sit in the school courtyard, tossing out three fictional names and asking, “F, marry, kill?” Now, imagine raising the stakes: a flirty dating app with three potential matches, a killer’s blade because—surprise—one might be a serial killer, and suddenly, your dating skills need a murder mystery upgrade. That’s the wild premise of the new girly horror flick F Marry Kill, starring our favorite -A (yep, Pretty Little Liars‘ Aria Montgomery herself, Lucy Hale), Virginia Gardner, and Hallmark alum Brooke Nevin.
We caught up with Brooke to chat about one of her earliest roles on Supernatural, play some whodunit games, and find out which horror flick she’d personally break the fourth wall to dive into.
Hi, Brooke. Welcome to the hive! Let’s rewind a bit—one of your earliest roles was on Supernatural as Katherine in season one’s ‘Asylum’ way back in 2005. What’s one career lesson you’ve learned since then that’s led you to your upcoming film F Marry Kill?
Hi! So excited to chat with the hive! Let’s see, I’ve learned that genre fare has the coolest, most incredibly loyal, and creative fans! When you work on a genre project, whether it’s a sci-fi series like Supernatural (SPN fam!), a cozy Hallmark rom-com (hello #hallmarkies!), or even a thriller like F Marry Kill, you’re tapping into a community that’s incredibly passionate and invested.
There’s such a rich dynamic between the fans and actors, writers, and producers of these shows, and as an actor, it’s incredibly rewarding to know that your work resonates with people. It’s a reminder of the power of storytelling and the importance of creating content that connects with audiences in meaningful ways. And honestly, it makes all the long hours and hard work worthwhile. You feel like part of something bigger than yourself, and that’s a pretty special feeling.
Studios And Podcasts
Speaking of F Marry Kill, it’s all about a podcast called Mark My Murder. So, are you a podcast girlie? Spill the tea on one you can’t stop listening to!
We Can Do Hard Things has been a go-to of mine for years now. And more recently, I’ve hopped onto the Scan Goddess train with Laci Mosley— it’s all about historical and contemporary scams and cons. I obviously want to know how to avoid them, but it’s also hilarious!
Now, this film is produced by Buzzfeed Studios, which, of course, is powered by BuzzFeed, Inc. How does working with a publication-focused production house differ from the network production houses you’re more accustomed to?
As far as my experience on set, filming the movie was great and similar to working with any other production house. I will say, though, that this movie (which is this perfect cocktail of pop culture and dark humor meets murder mystery) feels like a feature-length version of the BuzzFeed experience. You’re laughing one minute, gasping the next, and immediately sending a “How many red flags is too many?” meme to your group chat.
Big Sister Chats
In F Marry Kill, you play Valerie, the older sister to Lucy Hale’s Eva Vaugh. Eva’s juggling the chaos of dating three boys while flexing her true-crime skills to crack a serial killer case—a nice pun contrasting serial dater. What’s the best big sister dating advice you’ve ever received or dished out?
I think I’d have to go with, “Don’t be a mind reader.” I’m such a big advocate for being overly communicative in relationships. And that goes both ways—don’t assume you know what your partner or the person you’re dating is thinking, and also don’t expect them to understand your intentions or what you need or want from them. Make it explicit.
Channeling a little Pretty Little Liars “shhh” for no-spoilers, do you have a favorite scene or even behind-the-scenes moment with Lucy?
Yes, I do. It involves a ski mask, and I can’t say more than that ‘cause I don’t want to spoil anything, but every time I took it off in a scene with Lucy, we ended up cracking up. SO many takes ruined!
Hypothetically Hijacking Horror
The F Marry Kill movie features a blade with a hot pink background that’s giving us major Scream vibes. If you, as Valerie, could jump into any horror movie to solve a thrilling mystery and be the first to unmask the killer, which would you choose?
Oh, that is such a great question!
Okay, if I wanted to really put Valerie’s detective skills to the test, I’d go with The Silence of the Lambs. Because she doesn’t just want to unmask the killer—she wants to psychoanalyze him, profile him, and make sure he never gets near another woman again. I mean, Valerie would be at Buffalo Bill’s house before the FBI even finished their briefing, like: “Sir, do you have a thing for moths? You absolutely do. I’m calling this in.”
That being said, I would not be picking any supernatural horror. Ghosts? Demons? Nope. Valerie has control issues—you can’t slap a tracker on a ghost!

One of your other passions is photography! Picture this: You’re tasked with crafting potential killer profiles for the three suspicious boys in the movie. How would you stage their shots to drop some serious character clues?
Oh, this is so fun! But I don’t want to drop any spoilers, so I’ll just say I’d present them with three props—a condom, a ring, and a knife—and let them choose!
Personal Snapshots
On a more serious note, you’ve been working with the charity A Sense of Home, which empowers post-foster youth with confidence, since 2016. While you’re busy uplifting others, how have your contributions lifted you?
It’s been amazing to see how much A Sense of Home has grown since its founder, Georgie Smith, first turned a random act of kindness into an organization that has created thousands of homes for youth aging out of foster care.
Currently, I volunteer my photography skills for The Heart Gallery LA, which is an incredibly special experience because these images help raise awareness about children in foster care and increase their chances of finding loving homes. It’s also deeply emotional— you’re capturing moments of vulnerability, resilience, and hope. Serving my community through creativity has been a way to infuse my work with purpose and lasting impact, and it’s a reminder that art can be a powerful force for good in the world.
With so many Hallmark movies under your belt, it’s safe to say you’re decked out for the holiday season. What’s one tradition you can’t wait to involve your family in now that you’re a mother?
I have come to realize that the tradition of getting a family photo with Santa Claus— yes, matching scarves and all— is one that I will look forward to every year. And I mean that—until my son moves out.

Ending On A Musical Note
Lastly, since we’re totally in tune with music at The Honey POP, what song would be on Valerie’s soundtrack?
I’m going to go with ‘Paint the Town Red’ by Doja Cat. This song is all about owning your actions, not apologizing, and doing what you have to do, which is basically Valerie’s life philosophy. She might be intense, but she does not back down, and she will burn down an entire situation to protect her sister!
