We can’t believe we have the pleasure of presenting another OMEGA X interview to the Hive! Our faves are back with a brand new EP, UNCAPPED, and it’s the group’s first full comeback in a long while. But the members made sure to keep us fed with their solo and unit releases.
With five unskippable tracks, we immediately added UNCAPPED to our daily playlists. If you haven’t heard it yet, go ahead and give it a listen before jumping into our OMEGA X interview!
Group Comeback
After being busy with various exciting individual and unit projects, you are now greeting us as a group with new music! How does it feel to get back into a group comeback setting after a while?
JAEHAN: Since it’s a comeback we waited for so long, I’m very excited. Also, seeing our fans listen to this album and love it made me so happy.
HWICHAN: I’m feeling really good these days. It’s like coming back to my hometown that I’ve missed for a long time.
XEN: I feel grateful to promote as OMEGA X once again.
KEVIN: This is a group comeback after a while with a different number of members, so it feels new in a way. I’m reminding myself to work harder to cover for the other members as well.
YECHAN: With more members around, I definitely feel more energetic and livelier.
For listeners who may be tuning in for the first time, what words would you use to describe this comeback?
JAEHAN: OMEGA X, as expected.
SEBIN: I want to use the word, fun.
KEVIN: Exploding vibes.
YECHAN: Chill.
UNCAPPED
UNCAPPED is a very interesting release due to the involvement of your fans in this project! How did the idea first come up, and how did you feel throughout the process? How does it feel different compared to your previous releases?
HWICHAN: To OMEGA X, FOR X are our very reason for existing. So with this album, we wanted to reflect our fans’ opinions from the planning stage through the concept and the visual side, and really work with them. That process of working alongside our fans was very interesting and meaningful!
SEBIN: Compared to our previous albums, I think this one is very colorful. Even during production, I kept thinking everyone would love this album once it’s out in the world.
The title track also carries the essence of OMEGA X, and we have missed it for sure! Yet, it feels somehow new. Is there a secret to your ability to consistently deliver fresh and upgraded bangers each comeback?
XEN: I think it’s because all members had this strong urge that the title track especially had to show a more evolved version of OMEGA X‘s unique color.
JEHYUN: For every comeback, we always think hard together and share opinions about what vibe and songs to showcase. I think that’s the secret.
KEVIN: “A familiar but slightly new taste” feels like the exact way to put it! I think our hopes to give our fans who love and support us the freshest feeling possible found its way into this album too.

OMEGA X’s SEBIN on UNCAPPED
The unit songs stood out to us a lot. Can you talk a little bit about how that process went? Did you run into any surprises or unexpected challenges while making each song?
JAEHAN: I loved the beat of ‘Cork’ from the first time I heard it and had a feeling we could complete it well. And thinking about each one of the four unit members while producing was fun. ‘Close to me’ was a song the three members who actively compose music made from start to finish in one space. Because of that, it took longer than our usual pace, as each of us had to get the others to understand what each had in mind.
XEN: For ‘Close to me,’ we gathered in one space and had a concentrated work session, and we poured a lot of energy into it. It ultimately became another really good experience to push past my own limits.
YECHAN: Thanks to our fans taking part in this project so actively, we were able to present cool units amongst ourselves. For ‘Close to me,’ it was the first time the three of us gathered in one room to write a song. As much as it took us a long time to finish it, I’m very happy with the final outcome.
Music Genres
The mini-album also takes on a wide range of genres. Which of the tracks was your favorite to record?
SEBIN: ‘Cork!’ More than anything, I love the song so much, and I wanted to let people hear it as soon as possible!
KEVIN: I had the most fun recording ‘Cork’ since I love the song so much, but it also took the longest.
YECHAN: Rapping in the bridge part of ‘Close to me’ was fun. I was thrilled to take on a new challenge at my rap tone and vibe.
Speaking of genres, and you tapping into different music vibes, including in your unit sounds. Do you all have a favorite genre you like making music in or one that you would love to explore in the future?
JAEHAN: I love band music. When I listen to rock music, I get this feeling like something’s stirring inside me.
HWICHAN: I’d love to try a ballad song!
XEN: I love hip-hop and R&B. I’ll keep working on those genres with even more focus.
YECHAN: Lately, I’ve been into dance, hip-hop, and rock. Anything that can get the audience excited is what I like.
Thanks to our fans taking part in this project so actively, we were able to present cool units amongst ourselves.
OMEGA X’s YECHAN on unit songs
OMEGA X truly is a chameleon when it comes to your sound. How does the group discography lend itself to the solo work that each of you have done so far or want to do in the future?
JAEHAN: I think taking on and pulling off a wide range of genres is crucial. That’s how you can unfold your ideas in more various directions and express a wider range of emotions.
XEN: I went into the work thinking of myself as one of OMEGA X‘s producers. I wanted to put my own color into the album both as an artist and producer, and it made me realize once again that I want to express my color more strongly even in future solo projects.
YECHAN: I feel like I’m learning a lot about new genres when working. I have a desire to make a rock album in the future, and I think I’m discovering more about where I can combine it with hip-hop or dance.
What’s Next
This comeback is giving us the right vibes for the summer. What are a few summertime activities that you all enjoy?
SEBIN: This is just a personal wish, but I’d love to hang out with FOR X on a boat. (laughs)
KEVIN: I love going to water parks.
This year, you already toured Europe, held a Japan fan meeting, and released new music. Can you hint at some of your future plans for the second half of the year?
HWICHAN: I think we’ll be touring even more countries in the latter half of the year. (laughs)
JEHYUN: We’ll be going to meet FOR X waiting for us in various countries.
We’re getting a lot of positive and inspirational energy from your music, and it’s no secret everyone needs that in their lives. Do you have ways to keep your spirits up and stay motivated?
JAEHAN: I prefer not to stay still. When I’m not doing anything, I end up feeling even more listless, so I always try to keep going without stopping!
HWICHAN: When I think about FOR X being next to us, nothing feels difficult!
SEBIN: When you need energy, the members and I will give it to you. There’s a phrase that it’s better to share energy with others, and through this album, I was inspired to work even harder with the members.
XEN: When there was a situation I couldn’t change, I used to try to break through it. But once I had this mindset that sometimes going with the flow isn’t so bad, things seemed to work out more smoothly, and I felt more at ease. It made me realize that my attitude and thoughts dictate my mood and life, so I think that lets me move forward even more.
JEHYUN: I think it’s because of our fans who trust and wait for us. Since they’ve waited for so long, I want to give them an even better influence.
KEVIN: I believe remembering where we came from is important. Even though OMEGA X has tried many things musically since our debut to now, we, as artists, have been working consistently without losing the spirit we began with. I think that’s the energy of OMEGA X.
YECHAN: When members respect and love each other and our fans, the positive energy comes out naturally. We’re enjoying our lives now.
I think it’s because of our fans who trust and wait for us. Since they’ve waited for so long, I want to give them an even better influence.
OMEGA X’s JEHYUN on staying motivated

As you may have seen from our interview, OMEGA X will be back on tour very soon! They’ve just announced their US dates. With a whopping 23 cities over the course of a month, it’s looking like our boys will be booked and busy in August and September!
