After eight years and 84 days of wishing for new music (but who’s counting…?), MCRmy finally have new content to celebrate! My Chemical Romance just made their triumphant return to the music scene with ‘The Foundations Of Decay,’ which totally gives us the same eerie rock vibes as their first two albums: 2004’s I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love and 2004’s Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. And its dark imagery reminds us of the lyrics on 2006’s The Black Parade, making it an incredible summary of their legacy.
This is pretty much our reaction to the news…
Thematically, ‘The Foundations Of Decay’ calls back to their beginnings as a band. The second verse references the 9/11 terror attacks in September 2001, which inspired lead singer Gerard Way to start MCR and try to make a difference in the world. Within just a few lines, the focus seemingly turns to describing their impact as a band as well as solo artists, opting to “build towers of [their] own” instead of blindly following society or what those around them wanted them to do.
“He was there, the day the towers fell
And so he wandered down the road
And we would all build towers of our own…”
Now that we’ve explained the lyrics, can we talk about those amazing guitar moments?? Ray Toro and Frank Iero really gave their all to this song, and we’ve been playing it nonstop since its release. Add in some of Mikey Way’s ridiculous bass skills, and you’ve got a future rock classic in the making! As can be expected from MCR.
‘The Foundations Of Decay’ brings together everything we love about My Chemical Romance, from vivid, imagery-filled lyrics to instrumentals that will bring you to another world. And while our younger selves are still reeling over the fact that their MCRX campaign a few years back wasn’t a full-on comeback, we know they’d be smiling over the fact that our band is back. Bring on the tears!
What do you think of ‘The Foundations Of Decay?’ Have you gotten your tickets for MCR’s headlining tour later this year? If not, grab them right here and let us know what date you’re heading to on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! Or if you can’t get tickets for whatever reason, come cry with us over the fact that we haven’t gotten them either. At least we have ‘The Foundations Of Decay’ to keep us excited about the reunion!
