The Arctic Monkeys Shimmering Return With ‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’

The Arctic Monkeys

It’s time to log back into your Tumblr, get your docs out, and bleach your hair because The Arctic Monkeys are back! Ahead of their new album The Car, they’ve dropped the lead single ‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball,’ and it is AM magic. We really can’t get enough!

‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’ stands out as a mature and elegant performance from the band. Fans who found their previous moon-based album a little whacky will recognize this as a return to something that feels a little more like classic The Arctic Monkeys. If there’s one thing you can guarantee from this band, it’s that they’ll deliver a brilliant breakup song, and they’ve done it once again.

The chord progression running throughout the song is beautiful. It has a nostalgic feel to it when matched with the soaring strings. It’s emotional and feels like the band has grown up with you over time. Alex‘s vocals are so soothing despite the sadder lyrics, and we could listen to this on repeat for hours. And we mean hours.

It seems like there’s no end to the band’s creativity, either! Alex Turner directed the video himself. It’s a classy yet slightly unsettling visual which is perfect for the moody yet elegant breakup song. Clean and classy, but it leaves you with a strange sinking feeling as breakups often do. We love when a video perfectly matches the song, so we really admire Alex Turner for this one!

The Car

‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’ is just the first track to drop from their upcoming album. For those who can’t wait to hear more, you won’t have to wait very long! The band’s 7th studio album, The Car, is due to be released on October 21st, so it’s right around the corner! We even have the full tracklist already, and we can’t wait to hear the rest of them.
