If The Songs On ITZY’s Kill My Doubt Were Types Of ‘CAKE,’ Which Would They Be?

Ah, ‘IT’z SUMMER,’ and you know what that means! Yeah, sunny days and trips to the beach are nice, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. We’re talking about ITZY’s comeback season, of course. Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna are officially back and better than ever with their KILL MY DOUBT EP, a six-song celebration of embracing who you are and refusing to let other people get you down.

KILL MY DOUBT brings us some of ITZY’s sweetest music to date, including the title track, ‘CAKE.’ So naturally, it got us thinking! If each song on this mini-album were a piece of cake, which flavors would they be? IT’z time to head to the bakery!

‘BET ON ME’

You can always count on ITZY to come through with a self-confidence anthem, and that’s exactly what they brought us with the stunning pre-release single ‘BET ON ME,’ which perfectly introduced us to the energizing, motivating themes of KILL MY DOUBT. And can we talk about that symbolism in the music video for a second? Between Yuna looking uncertain in a train car surrounded by pictures from the ‘SNEAKERS’ era, when there were a bunch of ITZY hate trains, and Yeji constantly running and pushing herself as the leader, there’s so much to unpack here. Part of it is heartbreaking, but it also makes us so proud of the girls for being able to push through anything.

Maybe an odd choice, but we’d assign ‘BET ON ME’ to vanilla cake – even though it’s a classic flavor that’s proven its value like ITZY have over and over, there are still some people who don’t like it. You’re missing out!

“I say, ‘trust me,’ I talk to myself
Do I believe me? I can’t figure it out yet
But I hear this voice inside me…”

‘CAKE’

If there’s one thing ITZY are gonna do on a title track, it’s eat it up. So is it any surprise that they ate on ‘CAKE’ and left no crumbs? Nope, but we’ll always be impressed by what the girls cook up for us. This track delivers us the classic messages of individuality that made us fall for songs like ‘WANNABE’ and ‘DALLA DALLA’ with a refreshing, fun sound. Seriously, that “cake, cake, cake, cake, cake” has been stuck in our heads so much over the past few days that we can practically feel ourselves developing another sweet tooth. Since it builds on what makes ITZY, ITZY with an extra sprinkle of experimentation, we think ‘CAKE’ would definitely be one of those rainbow cakes that have all different colors layered inside when you cut a slice!

“You can’t make everyone happy, show some respect
I do me, you do you…”

‘None Of My Business’

The “not my business” line was one of our favorite moments of ITZY’s last title track, ‘Cheshire,’ so you could imagine how excited we were to find out ‘None Of My Business’ would be a song on KILL MY DOUBT! This summer-ready song is all about choosing yourself as a relationship falls apart, deciding that it’s simply none of your business what the other person might think of you and that you should do what’s best for you either way. Because the sound of this song is so light and cheerful, we think a sweet lemon cake would be perfect to match with it! And let’s face it, when you’re going through a breakup or almost-breakup, you deserve some cake to make things a little easier.

“Same old repetitive story
We’re falling out, me and you…”

‘Bratty’

Whether people approve or not, you should always be the truest version of yourself, and you shouldn’t try to change your personality for someone else! With ‘Bratty,’ ITZY embrace their “poison” side and go all-out in showing off their rebellious streak. We think ‘Bratty’ would be a cheesecake – like that “baddie” vibe the girls describe in the song, some people love it, some people hate it, but it’s still unapologetically there!

“It’s so easy to say, just spit out the poison
Without knowing anything about me…”

‘Psychic Lover’

We always hear the idea that a partner can’t read your mind, but what if you’re so in tune with each other that you can? It’d be pretty cool, but still not as cool as ‘Psychic Lover.’ The song shows off ITZY’s range so well, mixing an elevated, elegant sound on the verses with a 2000s pop-rock energy on the chorus. Since the song fuses different styles so well, our official cake evaluation is Neapolitan cake, mixing together chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry!

“Pretend to be deceived and trust me
I’ve never been wrong, psychic lover…”

‘Kill Shot’

The KILL MY DOUBT mini-album ends with what might be a contender for our favorite ITZY b-side of all time, if not our all-time fave already! ‘Kill Shot’ draws from a dark 80s pop vibe while declaring that the girls will never give up on their goals, knocking out all their obstacles until they get to where they want to go. It’s strong and powerful, so we think it would be a rich chocolate cake. Maybe with a ‘CHERRY’ or two on top for decoration?

“No mistakes until the end, even this trembling and uneasiness…”

We don’t know about you, but we’re getting hungry just thinking about all these possibilities. Now we wanna hear from you! Which song on ITZY’s KILL MY DOUBT mini-album is your fave?
