12 Books We’re Excited For In The First Half Of 2024

New year, new books! We at THP can’t wait to see what books we’ll get to read and review this year. 2023 had so many fantastic Sweet Reads. We even started Sweet Listens, a monthly audiobook column. Now, we’re more than ready for 2024!

If we went through a list of all the 2024 books we’re anticipating, we’d be here all day. So instead, we’ll give you 12 books we’re excited for in the first half of 2024!

There are very few things we at THP love more than diverse books. So, of course, we’re starting our list of anticipated 2024 books with RELIT: 16 Latinx Remixes Of Classic Stories. Edited by Sandra Proudman, RELIT is an anthology featuring 16 Latinx YA authors who reimagine classics like Frankenstein and myths like La Ciguapa. They breathe new life into these stories, adding fantasy and science-fiction elements while focusing on the intersectional Latinx experience. RELIT belongs on our 2024 TBR, and we’ll definitely be tuning in!

We absolutely cannot wait to see the ending of The Bone Spindle trilogy! Starting after the shocking cliffhanger of book two, our friend group is in trouble. Fi is struggling against the Spindle Witch all while being stuck in a tower with Briar’s monstrous form. And the only hope she has is figuring out an ancient riddle before time runs out for Briar. The Summer Book Club By Susan Mallery

Another 2024 book we’re excited about in February is Susan Mallery’s latest novel, The Summer Book Club! In it, three women learn to take chances and navigate love, identity, and motherhood through their summer book club in Southern California. (A dream!) Susan Mallery is an icon when it comes to writing about relatable female characters, their empowering bonds, and realistic situations. We’ve always wanted to start our own book club and are living vicariously through this trio!

The Someday Daughter By Ellen O’Clover

Our next 2024 release is the story of a girl named Audrey, the daughter of Camilla who became famous for writing a self-help book titled Letters to My Someday Daughter. In it, she encourages women to love and respect themselves like they would their daughters. Many say that Audrey is very lucky to have Camilla as her mother, except she thinks that’s the farthest thing from the truth after being sent to a boarding school at eleven and being used as a promotional tool.

Now Audrey is determined to break away from being Camilla’s daughter and enter a summer premed program with her boyfriend before college. But when her mother invites her to go on the book’s anniversary tour, she agrees to go with the hope of finally connecting with her mother. But what she doesn’t know is that all of her carefully laid out plans will go up in smoke after this summer. The Someday Daughter sounds like a great read with an in-depth look at family dynamics!

February 2024 is a busy month for book releases! And we can’t wait until Rachel Greenlaw releases her romantasy debut, Compass and Blade! This novel transports us to the high seas, where a girl named Mira sets off to find a family secret that will set her father free. Mira makes a deal with a shipwreck survivor and tries to find what her mother left behind for her in only nine days. We love reading about ocean adventures. And we’re so looking forward to all the action and romance in Compass and Blade!

And when she by chance runs into her childhood best friend Levi, she sees an opportunity. The two will pretend to fake date to make their ex-partners jealous. But soon Fitz starts to develop not fake feelings for Levi, and she’ll have to decide if she’s willing to let go of her picture-perfect dream. This sounds so cute! Fake dating is one of our favorite tropes so we are here for it!

Everything We Never Said By Sloan Harlow

Our last anticipated book of the first half of 2024 is Sloan Harlow’s novel, Everything We Never Said! This dark, romantic thriller follows Ella, a girl who blames herself for her best friend Hayley’s death. When Ella gets closer to Hayley’s boyfriend, Sawyer, she soon realizes she’s actually in love with him. But as Ella goes through Hayley’s old journal, she uncovers some of Sawyer’s secrets. Who knows what else she doesn’t know about him? We can already imagine the plot twists in Everything We Never Said.
