Changbin is one of the three main masterminds behind the perfection that is Stray Kids‘ discography. While he is known mainly for his hard-hitting, impactful, loud raps, there are so many sides to his art and his genius in songwriting. Every song Changbin has touched is gold, but here are some of our absolute favorites that everyone should know about.
‘Neverending Story’ (Extraordinary You, 2019)
For the first few years of their career, Stray Kids were known to be that one group with no love songs in their catalog. And, indeed, Stray Kids’ first-ever love song was no other than ‘Neverending Story.’ The mastermind behind all those beautiful lyrics that continue to tug at our heartstrings and describe love in such a gorgeous and beautiful way is, of course, Changbin. And we will never be able to thank him enough for this one.
‘Mixtape: On Track’ (2020)
With Changbin constantly delivering such intense and impactful raps, you wouldn’t think he’s behind one of the sweetest songs in Stray Kids’ discography – and yet. ‘Mixtape: On Track‘ remains one of their most precious songs, not only because it was released on the second anniversary of their debut but also because of its lyrics and sweet yet truly addictive melody. It was one of the first instances of Stray Kids taking on melodic rapping, and it is still, to this day, one of their best songs.
‘Streetlight’ (2020)
The SKZ-PLAYER and SKZ-RECORD format has given us a lot of gems and truly unforgettable songs. Changbin’s first solo track is one of the songs we haven’t been able to let off since its release. ‘Streetlight’ is a deeply vulnerable, beautiful song in which Changbin opens up about his struggles and loneliness. But through that, ‘Streetlight’ delivers a meaningful message that no one is alone. With Bang Chan being featured in the song and the black-and-white image slowly turning to color, it shows that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It is still one of our favorite things Changbin has ever done.
‘One Day’ (ALL IN, 2020)
‘One Day’ may be a Japanese b-side from 2020 that some people may not even know about, but it has gone triple platinum here. Because ‘One Day’ is just that incredible. ‘One Day’ is the perfect song for when you’re looking for something bittersweet that will make you feel understood in your struggles but will also lift your spirit. The lyrics describe everyday life and how worries and anxiety can affect you out of nowhere. On top of having amazing lyrics, it has some of the best upbeat and infectious melodies. This song deserves all the attention and love in the world (and so does Changbin for writing it.)
‘Sorry, I Love You’ (NOEASY, 2021)
We’ve established that Changbin is amazing when it comes to writing love songs, and we couldn’t talk about it without mentioning the one and only ‘Sorry, I Love You.’ This one is for the yearners, the friends-to-lovers enthusiasts, and the lovers of angst. ‘Sorry, I Love You’ encapsulates in the most simple, straightforward, yet beautiful way what it is like to fall in love with a friend and all the complicated feelings that come with it. This NOEASY b-side never fails to hit.
‘DOODLE’ (SKZ-REPLAY, 2022)
When it comes to rapping, very few are at Changbin’s level. In Stray Kids’ SKZ-REPLAY, Changbin’s solo track is ‘DOODLE,’ a song that is not only all about his craft but also shows some of his unique rapping style, witty lyrics, and amazing flows. ‘DOODLE’ shows the world as Changbin’s shell, where he draws everything around him and makes everything with his art. It’s a fun and unforgettable track that shows, better than ever, Changbin’s exemplary outlook on life through his art.
‘Snain’ (2023)
Released as an SKZ-RECORD, ‘Snain’ is a perfect example of Changbin‘s witty lyrics and constant genius play on words. ‘Snain’ features Felix and Seungmin and is all the falling out of a relationship. Indeed, this song is the perfect mixture of Changbin’s witty lyrics and his most heartbreaking lyrics. ‘Snain’ compares the end of a relationship with the rain and snow falling and washing everything away. But don’t let that fool you, because the melodies of ‘Snain’ are lively and bright. It’s another instance that shows Changbin’s mastermind as a songwriter.
‘DLC’ (5-STAR, 2023)
Changbin can give us love songs, he can give us insane raps that no one else could do, he can give us some of the most heartbreaking songs, but he can also give us songs like ‘DLC.’ The 5-STAR b-side is a song like no other with the way they sing about letting go and enjoying life to its fullest. It’s an ode to dance, to life, and all the small, beautiful things in life. With its melodic EDM drop, ‘DLC’ has truly never left our brains and is an instant favorite when it comes to Changbin’s songs.
