Hey Honey Bees! If there’s one thing we love it’s sharing our favorite tracks by our favorite artists with you! G Flip has been on our radar for quite some time now. They’re a nonbinary singer and drummer who have been creating music their fans and themselves love. And we would love to give you twelve tracks that prove they’re more than ‘Good Enough’ to listen to!
‘I Am Not Afraid’
I am fine feeling lonely
I found comfort in what's here
The first song up to bat is from early in G Flip’s career, titled ‘I Am Not Afraid’. The track is featured on their 2019 debut album, About Us. The song explores the themes of independence, freedom, and emotional healing. The singer finds comfort in being by themselves after a tainted relationship. They go on a journey through the song, from thinking about their ex-partner to realizing that being alone isn’t as bad as they might’ve thought. The message is clear and great, to say the least. The reminder here to listeners is that after a breakup, whether good or bad, finding the strength to keep standing strong can be a powerful feeling.
A playlist about self-empowerment, closure, or healing would suit this song well.
‘Drink Too Much’
Content Warning: Mentions of substance abuse (alcohol).
I just wanna get into trouble
I wanna be out to lunch
My last girl, she dumped me
'Cause I would drink too much
‘Drink Too Much’ is another song from early in their career and another track from the album About Us. The song explores themes of self-criticism, recklessness, and regret. G Flip finds themselves reflecting on a past relationship. All they wanted) to do while in the relationship was enjoy their life and have fun, not thinking about what they were going through emotionally. It led to them drinking more than they should and their ex leaving them. While they could’ve pushed it off they didn’t and found themselves apologizing for anyone they emotionally drained due to their drinking. We love the way they’re taking accountability for their actions.
A playlist about reflections or struggles would suit this song well.
‘Killing My Time’
Leave me, baby, please, leave me alone
'Cause right now I can't call you my own
None of us like it when someone takes our time away from us, and G Flip wrote a song about it. The song explores themes of desire, responsibility, and frustration. The lyrics find G Flip while attracted to their significant other and want to be able to get the things they need to do done. They’re trying to stay on track, but it’s hard for them. They find themselves trying to keep control of the situation but ultimately let the person know they can’t continue to be what they want them to be. The struggle was real with this one, and we could tell. At least let G Flip get things done before being a distraction!
A playlist about feelings, desires, or late-night drives would suit this song well.
‘Hyperfine’
Why don't you just speak your mind?
Always saying that you're f*cking fine
But I know you're not f*cking fine
I just wanna be notified
‘Hyperfine’ is a song exploring the themes of communication, honesty, and vulnerability. The lyrics find G Flip dealing with conflict with their partner. The last thing they want to do is argue or fight with the person. While they want to talk, the lyrics portray a partner who doesn’t want to be open about how they feel emotionally. All G Flip wants to do is get to the bottom of everything and want their partner to stop saying they’re fine when they’re far from fine. We understand that! It’s not easy trying to fix things that might need to be fixed if someone’s not willing to be open with how they’re feeling about something.
A playlist about angst, emotions, or relationships would suit this song well.
‘I’d Rather Go To Bed’
Content warning: mention of mental health
My dreams run all night long
Walking 'round like King Kong
Only place I feel strong
When my cheeks are dry
G Flip isn’t afraid to talk about everything they’re going through. ‘I’d Rather Go To Bed’ is one of the songs that proves it. The song explores themes of mental health, escapism, and vulnerability. The song is about depression and the desire to retreat from everything that’s happening around them. They want to find the peace and solace that comes with sleeping and dreaming when they lie down and close their eyes. Many people have those moments and can relate to the lyrics. It helps that their vocals shine on this song like many other songs on this list.
A playlist about escapism, anxiety, or reflections would suit this song well.
‘GAY 4 ME’ (feat. Lauren Sanderson)
I don't wanna play all these silly games
She don't wanna, she don't wanna stay
This song is one of our favorites in G Flip’s discography. We’re not ashamed to say it! ‘Gay 4 Me’ features Lauren Sanderson, and the two sound amazing together on the track! The song explores themes of attraction, casual relationships, and fluidity. In the lyrics, G Flip and Lauren Sanderson find themselves singing about a woman who’s playing games. One minute she wants them, and the next minute she doesn’t want to have anything to do with them. They call the woman out for how she’s portraying herself to be but in a playful and upbeat manner.
A playlist about the LGBTQIA+ experience, s*xual tension, or casual relationships would suit this song well.
‘GET ME OUT OF HERE’
Get me outta here, running outta air, running outta—
Get me outta here, I got no f*cks to give
One of G-Flip’s most energetic and catchy songs is next on our list. ‘GET ME OUTTA HERE’ explores the themes of feeling trapped, freedom, and self-reliance. In the song, they want to break free from their relationship. Their partner is playing games, and the relationship has been at a standstill to the point that they don’t want to hear anything that has to be said. G Flip channels their aggression throughout the song to emphasize how serious they are. It’s a breakup anthem some if not many, people can relate to.
A playlist about breakups, letting go, or toxic relationships would suit this song well.
‘Waste Of Space’
I don't feel like I'm a girl
Nor a boy so where do I lie?
‘Waste of Space‘ is one of their most personal and powerful songs. The song explores themes of gender identity, self-worth, and mental health. The song is G Flip reflecting on their gender identity and coming to terms with accepting it, despite what society has to say. Through the lyrics, they talk about how they grew up questioning themselves and who they were and not having anyone to talk about these things. In the beginning, they feel like a ‘Waste of Space,’ but by the time the chorus hits, they realize they’re not a waste of space like their mind has made them believe. The song serves as a song for anyone who might be struggling with their gender identity and to remind them that they’re not alone. Also, can we say that this is why representation in media matters?!
A playlist about LGBTQIA+ Pride, self-acceptance, or empowerment would suit this song well.
‘The Worst Person Alive’
Go ahead, babe, talk about me
Tell everyone your own f*cked up story
‘The Worst Person Alive’ is the second track on G Flip’s second album, DRUMMER. The song explores themes of self-doubt, a failed relationship, and loneliness. In the song, they’re found reflecting on a relationship they’re no longer in and their ex-partner. G Flip sings about how their ex-lover has been spreading gossip about them and how they want nothing but the best for their ex. With how the ex seems to have moved on, spreading rumors about them, and acting as if they don’t exist, they feel like they’re ‘The Worst Person Alive’. It’s a relatable song, as many people have been in a place where they’ve questioned if they’re a horrible person due to getting heartbroken. Between the lyrics, the drums, and the hurt one can hear in their voice, this song is one of the best songs on their second album!
A playlist about heartbreak, regret, or loneliness would suit this song well.
‘Be Your Man’
I know how you think and what you like
And what your body needs
Convinced you should run from me
‘Be Your Man’ is another song from their album DRUMMER. The song explores themes of challenging gender norms, vulnerability, and hesitation. In a video on TikTok, G Flip played the song for their partner, as it was the first song they had ever written about her. The song finds the singer wanting the person they’re singing about to throw out expectations of who they think they should be with, letting the person know they can be who and what they need in a partner. They feel like they understand her in ways other people can’t and want them, despite any protests they might get. We admire their confidence to go after who and what they want! Don’t you, honey bees?
A playlist about unconventional love, longing, or LGBTQIA+ romance would suit this song well.
‘Australia’
Do you think about our history like I do?
And I hope that you are happier
Are you back home in Australia?
G Flip was born and raised in Australia, so it’s no surprise they made a song called ‘Australia’. The song explores themes of nostalgia, reflection, and distance. They sing about missing and thinking about who we believe is their wife. They want to know if she’s thinking about them as well while there’s a distance created between them. It’s a beautiful song and captures the feeling of missing someone you can’t physically see whenever you would like.
A playlist about long-distance love or traveling would suit this song well.
‘Baked’
What have you done to me?
You make me fly
Milk and sugar, flour, fun and
Lovin' through the night
Some might be able to figure out what ‘Baked‘ is about by the title alone. This playful song explores themes of playfulness, love, and desire. The song is about G Flip being high. They use a lot of metaphors throughout the song to explain how they’re feeling and their attraction to their partner. Our favorite? The lines above this paragraph, of course! They knew what they were doing when they made this song. It might be about edibles, but it’s ‘Good Enough’ in every way.
A playlist about relaxation or romance would suit this song well.
Honorable Mention: ‘Good Enough’
And I can't be the only one
Losin' my head before my heart
It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t mention G Flip’s song ‘Good Enough’, so we’re giving it an honorable mention. The song explores the themes of internal struggles, self-sabotage, and conflict. The lyrics find them vulnerable and sing about their flaws and insecurities. They’ve been struggling with certain behaviors and internally battling with their thoughts, which makes them think they’re not undeserving of being with their partner. Many of us have been there before, but at the end of the day, if you’re reading this, you’re ”Good Enough’ for more than you think.
A playlist about vulnerability, self-love, or healing would suit this song well.
