MOASwifties, unite! Our time has come! TXT has released a cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story,’ and we’ll never be the same again. There’s a live version and a digital release (more on both of those later), and both of them have got our minds spinning. We love TOMORROW X TOGETHER, we love Taylor Swift, and we’re also really greedy, so we couldn’t stop thinking of other tracks we’d love TXT to cover! Here are our thoughts on ‘Love Story’ and 13 more songs…
‘Love Story’
First, let’s dig into the Taylor Swift song that TXT actually did cover: ‘Love Story!’ This cover was a perfect fit for TXT’s current SANCTUARY era, where they’re delving into a hopeful love story (you see the link?) for the very first time. Appearing on The Seasons with Lee Young Ji, TXT performed songs from The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY, some of their biggest hits, and this cover!
Given that they gave us band versions of their own songs, we thought their version of ‘Love Story’ would be rock-oriented, but we’re happy to admit we were wrong! This synth-pop instrumental sounds more 1989 than Fearless, and TXT’s vocals are out of this world. Whether it’s the live performance, or the official version released on streaming platforms on November 15th, this cover is one of our favorites ever.
‘My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys’
Is this song partially on this list because we just love that TXT never change pronouns when they do covers? Yes, but that’s not the only reason! We can’t help but imagine how good TXT’s gang vocals would sound in the bridge. Plus, we’d love to hear more of TXT’s lower register, especially in their patented pop-rock style.
‘Wildest Dreams’
If we had a nickel for every time we saw a tubatu edit with ‘Wildest Dreams’ as the soundtrack… well, we’d be as rich as Taylor Swift and TXT, probably. Maybe that’s indicative of our FYP algorithm, or maybe it’s indicative of how well the TXT members fit the “He’s so tall and handsome as hell,” lyric. Who’s to say?!
‘I Did Something Bad’
Imagine Yeonjun opening this cover with, “I never trust a narcissist, but they love me.” Did you just ascend to heaven? Because same. Large parts of TXT’s aesthetic, especially The Chaos Chapter, are very Reputation-coded, and we know they’d slay this cover.
‘Enchanted’
If you already knew exactly why we’d include ‘Enchanted’ on this list, then congratulations on officially being a hardcore MOA. As soon as TXT’s cover of ‘Love Story’ was announced, our minds immediately went to this TikTok using Taylor Swift’s ‘Enchanted.’ Hopefully, if they actually covered this song, Soobin wouldn’t look as desperate for it to be over as he does here.
‘Treacherous’
Think harmonies. Think Taehyun singing “I-I-I like it,” in the chorus before Huening Kai takes over for the bridge. Are you seeing the vision? ‘Treacherous’ is a criminally underrated Taylor Swift song, and TXT’s gentler vocals, which would be on showcase here, are criminally underrated, too.
‘Dancing With Our Hands Tied’
Taylor’s sonic direction on Reputation is probably the closest she’s gotten to the styles you often find in K-Pop, so it makes sense we’d have a few songs from that record on this list. For ‘Dancing With Our Hands Tied,’ we’d absolutely love to see how TXT attacked this cover from a performance perspective. We just know the choreography would hit.
‘Style’
Call us delusional, but TXT do have that “James Dean, daydream,” look in their eyes, after all. The synth-pop guitar of ‘Style’ is totally in TXT’s wheelhouse, and this cover seems like such a perfect fit that we’d hardly flinch if it happened! Okay, that’s not true. We’d definitely freak out, but still…
‘Long Live’
We just thought about how much the lyric “You traded your baseball cap for a crown,” fits TXT and got actual goosebumps. Isn’t that exactly what they did when they debuted, after all? They graduated from only seeing the practice rooms – where baseball caps are absolute essentials – to standing on stages that are watched all across the globe with their very first single, ‘Crown.’
‘Delicate’
As soon as we started to think of parallels in TXT and Taylor Swift’s discographies, our minds jumped to “West side, East side, didn’t know where, where to go,” in ‘PUMA’ and the mentions of those locations in ‘Delicate,’ but we’ll admit that is a mash-up we do not want. What we do want, though, is a cover, showing TXT’s take on one of Taylor’s most wistful tracks.
‘State Of Grace’
Something that not enough people know, is how heavily influenced by rock bands TXT are. Most of them are big indie music fans and a few play instruments too. We’d do anything to see more TXT performances with them playing instruments, like the live version of ‘Skipping Stones,’ especially if they came in the form of a ‘State Of Grace’ cover!
‘I Can Do It With A Broken Heart’
We’re pretty sure that the only person who could match Taylor Swift’s satirical and playful energy in ‘I Can Do It With A Broken Heart’ is TXT’s Beomgyu. If you’ve seen the performance of this song on the Eras Tour, you can practically see Beomgyu’s sarcastic head tilt and mocking wide eyes already.
‘Haunted’
Not this list having more Speak Now tracks on it than the Eras Tour setlist… Anyway. The drama and theatrics of this song are a perfect match for TXT’s wider concept. Their lore centers around Yeonjun maybe being dead, maybe seeing the members as ghosts, or them maybe just living in his imagination (We have no idea what we’re talking about), so ‘Haunted’ couldn’t be a better fit!
‘Lavender Haze’
Take just a second to imagine Soobin’s iconic falsetto on this chorus, and we guarantee you’ll want a ‘Lavender Haze’ cover as badly as we do. TXT’s aesthetic leans into these wistful, dreamy concepts so well, and we know their vocals would absolutely destroy us with this one.
