Do you ever sit and think about how mind-blowing The Dream Chapter: MAGIC truly was? Because we certainly do. For TXT to release an album this phenomenal, just seven months after they debuted, and as their first full-length project? Truly iconic behavior.
The Dream Chapter: MAGIC is also the perfect gateway to TXT’s discography! It was the stepping stone for so much of their later sound and showed their unparalleled versatility even at this early stage in their careers! Because of this, we’ve paired up every track from MAGIC with another song from TXT’s catalog we reckon you’ll love. Whether you’re a new listener who wants to deep dive or you’re a long-term MOA who wants to reminisce, this is the article for you.
Or maybe you just want an excuse to add yet another TXT playlist to your rotation, which is a big mood.
‘New Rules’ & ‘No Rules’
Has there ever been a more iconic opening line than Yeonjun’s husky “I think I’m feeling alright?” Not in our books! For ‘New Rules,’ we’re going with ‘No Rules,’ but stick with us! We’re not choosing just because of the matching names, but because of the thematic parallels. It’s anarchy, but make it fun! “Want to be a punk” versus “I wanted to be a punk, but why?” It just makes sense!
‘9 And Three Quarters (Run Away)’ & ‘Chasing That Feeling’
The title track that changed it all! The Dream Chapter: MAGIC‘s ‘Run Away’ is one of TXT’s most popular singles to date. It’s an 80s inspired track filled with yearning, and do you know what else is exactly that? The Name Chapter: FREEFALL‘s title track ‘Chasing That Feeling!’ Slightly more on the new wave side of 80s music, the two songs still have so much in common, including being absolute bops.
‘Roller Coaster’ & ‘What If I Had Been That Puma’
We all know how great TXT is at rock-influenced concepts, but did you know they’re this good at hip-hop, too? ‘Roller Coaster’ and ‘What If I Had Been That Puma’ are both criminally underrated TXT b-sides, in our humble opinion! If you love classic hip-hop references, you’ll love both of these!
P.S. Keep an eye on Huening Kai around 22 seconds into this video. You won’t regret it.
‘Poppin’ Star’ & ‘Happy Fools’
Maybe the cutest performance we’ve ever seen from tubatu? How do we start a petition for ‘Poppin’ Star’ on the next tour setlist? This fanlive performance lives rent-free and reminds us of the super cute moments we got on the ACT: SWEET MIRAGE tour thanks to ‘Happy Fools!’
‘Can’t We Just Leave The Monster Alive?’ & ‘Blue Spring’
‘Can’t We Just Leave The Monster Alive?’ is not only the most uplifting song on The Dream Chapter: MAGIC, but maybe in TXT’s whole catalog too. The track is bright and reassuring, which is exactly why we’ve paired it with ‘Blue Spring.’ The fan song just warms our wintery hearts!
‘Magic Island’ & ‘Farewell Neverland’
If ever we feel like we understand TXT’s lore, we rewatch this music video and remember that we’ll never wrap our heads around it. However, ‘Magic Island’ isn’t the only magical place that TXT have traveled to in their discography. ‘Farewell Neverland’ is a beautiful acoustic moment that showcases the heart of TXT’s group identity, just like ‘Magic Island.’
’20cm’ & ‘Sweat’
Gone but never forgotten! And by “gone,” we mean ignored in every TXT setlist, and by “never forgotten,” we mean never out of our Spotify On Repeat playlist. If you love ’20cm,’ then we reckon you must be a fan who pays a lot of attention to vocal performance, which is why we’re recommending ‘Sweat.’ The secret song that became the encore finale at ACT: LOVE SICK showcases exactly that!
‘Angel Or Devil’ & ‘PUMA’
Okay, but who would win in this fight: an angel, a devil, or a ‘PUMA?’ Either way, these two tracks are some of TXT’s best coupling songs. Be it sweet or serious, they both also show us how good TXT is at embodying a concept, and we’ll always be reminded of that Beomgyu transition. You know the one we’re talking about.
