5 Times Stray Kids’ Bang Chan Inspired Us

There have been way too many times when Stray Kids‘ leader, Bang Chan, has inspired us, but here are some of those times.

Stray Kids could not have asked for a better leader. There have been many times that Bang Chan has proven to be not only one of the best leaders out there, but he also has brought comfort to a lot of people, especially STAYs.

Here are some of the times we’ve been inspired by Bang Chan.

His speech after playing Imagine Dragons’ ‘Demons’

A big part of Bang Chan being such a comfort for STAYs is him going live quite recurrently. On one of his lives earlier this year, he played the song ‘Demons’ by Imagine Dragons and sang along to it beautifully. However, what’s even more memorable is what he said afterward, advocating for self-love and encouraging everyone to acknowledge their inner flaws that are, after all, normal.

“I feel like everyone has their own demon inside them but, I don’t know, I feel like that demon doesn’t always have to be a bad demon. Sometimes, it’s nice to accept that demon because that demon being inside of you is still a part of you. In the end, loving yourself is the main thing to do. That demon inside of you is really special as well. So yeah, feel proud of that little demon inside of you.”

The second time he played ‘One Last Time’ by Ariana Grande in one of his Vlives

There’s no way to explain how meaningful ‘One Last Time’ by Ariana Grande has become. On the 22nd episode of Chan’s Room, Bang Chan played the song for the second time, as he had already played it on a previous episode. Not only did he talk about the importance of seizing the moment as we never know what’s going to happen, but he also talked about how important it is to be yourself and show who you are to the world.

“Since we don’t know what situation might occur, we need to enjoy to the fullest, and we need to do everything… That’s important. Because you never know what’s going to happen. So I think it’s best to really do what you really want to do – really, just enjoy being alive. And also… Expressing who you are – and I know you guys know what I mean. It’s really important to show the world who you are because it’s not like everyone is going to be like “oh, back away’. No, no. There is going to be people who are going to open up and accept you as well. So I feel like whenever you want, when you feel it’s right, it’s always good to express and get out your inner self. I think that’s something that is very important because you don’t know really when something is gonna happen.”

When he talked about anxiety and self harm

Stray Kids are known for not shying away from issues when it comes to their music, especially when it comes to mental health. In one of his vlives from late 2019, Bang Chan was asked about both stress and anxiety. He was asked about how one could relieve stress. He talked about how natural it was to feel stress and about some ways to relieve that stress, and he also talked about self harm.

“If you feel stressed, it’s best to find something that makes you happy, makes you feel comfortable and just, makes you think about something else. I think that’s what helps relieve stress. […]

“Just don’t hurt yourself. Whatever it is. […] Just because you have a lot of stress, it doesn’t mean that you have to relieve it by hurting yourself or going ways that might really disadvantage you. That, I really don’t recommend. Because you never know what’s going to happen in the future. Something might go wrong but there might be a turning point and from that on, you’re going to feel regretful. So, if you think about the future, it’s best to just keep away from that and find different ways of relieving stress. If you really can’t help it, or if you really just don’t know what to do or if you’re really lost, as I’ve always said come here, look for me, ask me, talk with me, and I’ll try my best to relieve your stress if I can help.”

Bang Chan was also later on asked about anxiety. The full version of both of these moments are in the video below.

When he explained the original meaning of “Stray Kids everywhere around the world”

Bang Chan has always been very vocal about how he wants Stray Kids’ concerts to be a safe place and for the group itself to be something that welcomes everyone. A lot of the times he has stated that in times of need, they’re here to listen and to help in any way they can.

And all of this at the end of the day comes down to their slogan, “Stray Kids everywhere all around the world”, which he explained in the 50th episode of Chan’s Room…

“When we first wrote ‘Stray Kids everywhere all around the world’ it wasn’t to mean that Stray Kids as a team we’re going everywhere around the world. What we meant was: the term stray kids means kids who are astray, right? And I guess we are called Stray Kids but we’re kids who are astray. And I’m pretty sure, there’s a lot of kids out there, a lot of people out there not only kids, it could be adults as well, it could be teenagers, adults, parents – but a lot of people can feel astray sometimes. It could be mentally, physically… But to know that you guys all are astray but you’re astray with us… I just wanna say I feel like that itself is just very powerful and I just wanna say thank you to guys for being astray with us.”

Stray Kids’ music

At the end of the day, this is what it is all about: music.

If you listen to Stray Kids or know anything about them, you might already know that their music on itself tackles mental health like in ‘Side Effects’. But, they also create a place where people can feel identified and heard.

Songs like ‘Haven’, ‘You Can STAY‘, ‘Mixtape#1‘, and especially ‘Grow Up‘ have inspired us in so many ways. They’re songs that give you hope, a safe place, and quite literally a reason to stay.

In the end, that’s what inspires us the most about Bang Chan: his imput into Stray Kids’ music and how devoted he is to his team.
