April has come to a close, which means May is upon us, but we have to look back at what an incredible month for new music just passed us by! From Lizzo to George Ezra to the internet’s boyfriend, Jack Harlow, we’ve got the best of the best in a round-up here for you!
George Ezra – ‘Green Green Grass’
Every piece of art George Ezra releases is pure serotonin, ‘Green Green Grass’ is the perfect example! ‘Green Green Grass’ feels sun-soaked. You just can’t help but smile when that chorus hits. Our summer is going to be full of us singing right along with George Ezra.
We Three – ‘Full Time Job’
Since discovering We Three on TikTok and having them tease us with snippets, we’ve been eagerly anticipating ‘Full Time Job,’ and April was the month we were finally blessed with the track! We can’t even count how many times we’ve full-on screamed along with the chorus, dreaming of having someone who writes songs about us in a hotel room in Paris. This trio is here for the long haul, and it’s time everyone jumps on board.
Olivia O’Brien – ‘Bitches These Days’
It should come as no surprise that ‘Bitches These Days’ is an absolute jam, considering Olivia O’Brien is that girl. From older songs like ‘Root Beer Float’ (sorry for bringing this up, Olivia) to the internet’s favorite callout, ‘Josslyn,’ Olivia just doesn’t miss. We are here for how early 2000s ‘Bitches These Days’ feels. That chant-like chorus can’t be beaten.
Jack Harlow – ‘First Class’
‘First Class’ just may be the most anticipated song of 2022 so far, and of course, in typical Jack Harlow fashion, he delivered. In our book, any song that calls back to The Dutchess is an A+ tier track. While writing this, we are only a day away from Come Home The Kids Miss You, and we can hardly wait. We are ready for Jack Harlow to supply us with our summer soundtrack.
Taylor Bickett – ‘Zodiac Sign’
Anytime we find a singer-songwriter who can put things into words we never could, we jump on board! With Taylor Bickett, she’s done just that. Taylor’s way with words further impresses you with each release. With ‘Zodiac Sign,’ Taylor Bickett is tackling the way that we ignore all the red flags when we are into someone, you know you’re guilty of it, and we are too, don’t worry!
Lauren Spencer-Smith – ‘Flowers’
‘Flowers’ completely ripped us apart the first and hundredth time we listened. The raw quality of Lauren’s voice shines so brightly here and makes the lyrics come alive that much more. We could break down each line for you (which we did btw!), but the bottom line is that it’s been a long time since a track hit us the way ‘Flowers’ has.
Mark Ambor – ‘Hair Toss, Arms Crossed’
If you’re looking for an upbeat track to dance around to, ‘Hair Toss, Arms Crossed’ is the one for you! We can perfectly picture the wind in our hair, driving on a summer day, and ‘Hair Toss, Arms Crossed’ blaring out the speakers. Mark Ambor has made the perfect feel-good pop song.
Katherine Li – ‘Never Had A Chance’
As if ‘Flowers’ didn’t have us crying enough in April, ‘Never Had A Chance’ came out and finished ruining us. So many of us can relate to that soul-crushing realization that you’re fighting for someone who has no interest in you whatsoever. But, hearing it put to words as beautifully as Katherine Li did, just dug that knife in deeper.
Megan Moroney – ‘Hair Salon’
You know we had to add a little acoustic country to the mix! Megan Moroney has figured out the perfect recipe for a song about the heartbreak of your first love moving on! We had a good cry (or multiple cries) to ‘Hair Salon,’ maybe it’s a good day for us to go blonde?
Lizzo – ‘About Damn Time’
‘About Damn Time’ is the song of the summer. Yes, even though it was released in April, it’s that simple. If you open TikTok right now, you’ll see video after video of everyone doing the dance, and we love to see it! Lizzo is someone who knows how to put out a hit, no duds from our girl.
We would love to hear from you! What is your favorite track that the month of April graced us with? Was is was it ‘Green Green Grass’ by George Ezra? Was it ‘First Class’ by Jack Harlow?
