5 Things We Hope For From BLACKPINK’s 2022 Comeback

Whenever BLACKPINK goes on a little hiatus from the spotlight, we honestly ‘Don’t Know What To Do’ with ourselves while we wait for our girls to come back! But thankfully, JennieJisooLisa, and Rosé are set to return later this year. ‘How You Like That?’ We like that a lot!

We can’t help but daydream about what a BLACKPINK comeback could possibly hold. With such talented members, there are so many different things they can try and new heights they can reach. So here are some things we’re hoping for the Pinks to give us in 2022!

More Writing Credits

With THE ALBUM in 2020, we got Jennie and Jisoo writing credits on ‘Lovesick Girls,’ so it’s no surprise that ‘Lovesick Girls’ is one of their most awe-inspiring tracks. We also got ROSÉ co-writing both of her solo songs – ‘Gone’ and ‘On The Ground’ – while LISA helped with her DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Megan Thee Stallion collab ‘SG.’ When the girls jump into the creative process, they create such magic, so we hope to hear more! And it looks like we might – Jisoo told Rolling Stone:

We don’t just receive a completed song. We’re involved from the beginning, building the blocks, adding this or that feeling, exchanging feedback — and this process of creating makes me feel proud of our music. If we just received premade songs, it would feel mechanical. I feel more love for the process, because we say, ‘How about adding this in the lyrics? How about adding this move in the choreography?’

Jisoo

We love that the girls get involved with their artistry so much! It really lets us step into their creative mindsets and get to know them on a deeper level, all while challenging them to push their own boundaries and try new things.

Playing With New Sounds

BLACKPINK has given us everything from explosive pop with songs like ‘Boombayah’ to a sleeker, R&B-influenced sound with tracks like ‘Pretty Savage.’ They always leave us wondering where they’ll be venture off to next. Plus, now that Rosé gave us more of an alt-pop sound with ‘Gone’ and Lisa gave us some Thai influence on ‘LALISA,’ the doors are opening more than ever.

Lisa got excited about the idea of trying new genres in her Rolling Stone feature:

Blackpink is trying different songs, but there’s still a lot we haven’t done. Reggae, even jazz, like you said before. Is hip-hop the only thing I’m good at? What if it turns out I’m also good at traditional Thai music? I’m curious to know how much I can expand what I do.

Lisa

Even though BLACKPINK tends to stay in the pop realm, we’re so curious to see what direction they go in with this comeback. Could you imagine a pop-punk BLACKPINK number with guitars and hard-hitting drums? Or a synth-driven 80s pop feel a la Dua Lipa

Jaw-Dropping Music Videos

Okay, this one is kind of a given, but we’re manifesting it just in case! No one does a music video quite like BLACKPINK, whether it’s a pastel wonderland like ‘Ice Cream’ or a gloomy, stained-glass hallway like the one in ‘Kill This Love.’ Their visuals really bring the music to the next level, and we can’t wait to see what kind of aesthetics they have up their sleeve for 2022. Maybe a gold-tinged royalty concept as a nod to their legendary status?

Gorgeous Vocal Moments

Part of what makes BLACKPINK’s music so special is their incredible voices, which never fail to blow us away. And with so much time spent away from the spotlight and cameras, we’re sure all four girls have really been working on their skills to wow us more than ever. Rosé shared with Rolling Stone that she did just that during quarantine:

During my time off, I started to realize I just love to sit and sing. Recently I started picking up the guitar again. I hadn’t been doing that for the past two or three months — caught up in life. But I had a few days when I didn’t have anything. I didn’t plan anything. I just decided to stay home and see what happens.

We thought BLACKPINK couldn’t get any better, but they might just prove us wrong with this comeback. Our ears are ready!

The Girls Taking Care Of Themselves

Of course, comeback season brings us a slew of new content, music to sing along to, and performances to binge-watch, but what’s really important is that the Pinks put their health first. Whether they’re sick or injured, the girls always push themselves to make sure they deliver their best efforts. And we love them for it, but we hope they prioritize their well-being, too! Jennie opened up about learning to take care of herself in her Rolling Stone interview:

I think it’s really important to be healthy. Just know my weakness, what I’m allergic to, what I shouldn’t be putting in my body. I value this and study, so I’m stronger than before. I’ve met a lot of people in this industry and talked about mental health. For me, so far, when I’m good in my body, I feel happier and healthier. I meditate, do yoga, Pilates, etc. And have good people around you that you can trust. And pets.

Jennie

Both idols and fans alike should prioritize their physical, mental, and emotional health! When we’re all healthy and looking out for ourselves, that’s the best way to really soak in the memories and enjoy a comeback together.
