Laufey Is Bringing Back Bossa Nova With ‘Falling Behind’

Sometimes it feels like the world is getting away from you and Laufey has captured that feeling perfectly in her new single, ‘Falling Behind.’ The Bossa Nova-inspired tune has made us feel at peace with the pace of life despite the lingering anxieties woven into its lyrics. The craftsmanship that has gone into the song is evident and has got us hook, line, and sinker.

We’ve seen an increasing amount of artists entwining Bossa Nova rhythms and beats into more modern production and structures. Some examples you may have also noticed are Billie Eilish’s ‘Billie Bossa Nova‘ or FINNEAS‘ ‘Let’s Fall In Love For Tonight.’ It’s not just the sibling duo that have nailed the incorporation into modern music though, as Laufey has proven with this stunning single. There’s just something about a good bit of Bossa Nova that gets you moving!

Watching the video accompanying the official audio, it’s easy to fall into the upbeat rhythms and light vocals. However, there is some beautiful depth to be found in the lyrics, exploring anxieties many of us face when growing up and hoping to find love. Like Laufey says, sometimes that can feel a little like ‘Falling Behind’ when everyone around you seems to fall into it so easily. We have faith though that’ll it’ll happen when it’s supposed to. Everyone is on a different path in life and we say to try to enjoy the journey instead of racing to the final destination!

Happy bops with sad lyrics are something we love at THP. Dance away any sadness but acknowledge your feelings and live your truth. We love it!
