Stray Kids are mostly known for their powerful, unapologetic songs overflowing with confidence or even their darker, angsty songs. But there are many sides to Stray Kids‘ music, including love songs—and they have some incredible gems in that category. Now, we could talk for ages about what a banger ‘Case 143‘ is or how songs like ‘Want so BAD‘ changed our lives, but we’re here to shed light on some songs that may have fallen through the cracks if you’re a new listener or you want to revisit some deep cuts and need a hint of Stray Kids in your Valentine’s playlist. Stray Kids definitely have all you need!
‘Airplane’ (GO LIVE, 2020)
Truth be told, Stray Kids didn’t have a single love song in their discography until late 2019, when they released their iconic first OST, ‘Neverending Story‘—the rest is history. Their first full-length album, GO LIVE, allowed them to explore different sounds and themes, and ‘Airplane‘ is one of the results of that. This lighthearted, feel-good song makes you take off from all the problems you may have. It’s simple yet so catchy and establishes such a wonderful atmosphere. ‘Airplane’ is a breath of fresh air whenever we listen to it.
‘Because’ (2021)
There was a moment when ‘Because‘ was everywhere (as it should be), and we’re here to remind you about it. ‘Because’ is the Stray Kids song for Valentine’s Day. The track was released in 2021 for White Day and encapsulates the simplicity and beauty of loving someone for who they are and supporting them through their ups and downs. It is a relaxing, chill, and sweet song. The mix of Felix and Changbin‘s voices together was perfect for a song like ‘Because.’
‘Your Eyes’ (CIRCUS, 2022)
‘Your Eyes‘ is not precisely underrated when discussing the music video. Stray Kids themselves still refer to that video to this day, and it will probably forever be iconic. But let’s stop a second to talk about the song itself. At the time of its release, ‘Your Eyes‘ was truly unique in Stray Kids’ discography with its simple concept about love and catchy pop melodies that make it impossible not to sing along to. The mix of melodic rap into such a beautiful song gave it the Stray Kids flair we love in every song.
‘Can’t Stop’ (MAXIDENT, 2022)
Stray Kids’ 2022 comeback with MAXIDENT was all about love. We got ‘Case 143‘ as the title track, of course, but we also got songs like ‘Give Me Your TMI,’ ‘TASTE,’ and, of course, Seungmin and I.N’s sub-unit track, ‘Can’t Stop.’ Following the more mellow, slow-paced ballad, ‘My Universe,’ this new sub-unit song was a whole other take. ‘Can’t Stop‘ is an upbeat and playful song full of energy and love. It emanates happiness in its best form with Seungmin‘s and I.N‘s voices. It’s an instant serotonin booster, and everyone deserves this kind of energy in their lives.
‘There’ (THE SOUND, 2023)
Remember when we said ‘Your Eyes’ was unique at the time of its release? That’s because it was a sibling now, and that’s ‘There.’ It’s also a pre-release Japanese track; it has the first-person POV music video to accompany it, and it is just as addictive with perfect and satisfying pop-ballad melodies. While ‘Your Eyes’ has a summer and spring feel, ‘There‘ feels like warmth in the middle of fall and winter.
‘Butterflies’ (Social Path, 2023)
You can see a pattern with Stray Kids’ Japanese releases because they always give us the best love songs. ‘Butterflies‘ is one of them. If you love ‘Hoodie Season‘ as much as we do, ‘Butterflies‘ will be right in your alley. It’s truly unique in Stray Kids‘ discography with its bossa nova influence, and it also includes soft vocals and witty lyricism as they sing about the initial feelings of falling for someone. It’s comforting, catchy, and a true gem.
‘Black Hole’ (2023)
As a surprise for the holidays in 2023, Bang Chan and I.N released their first duet together, ‘Black Hole.’ And it may not be on streaming platforms (yet?), but you bet going to listen to it on YouTube is more than worth it. ‘Black Hole‘ is a lowkey track based around a luring acoustic guitar, accompanied by the perfect mixture of Bang Chan and I.N’s tones. It’s compelling and magnetic. A great duo for an incredible song.
‘U’ (ft. Tablo) (HOP, 2024)
After waiting and hoping for a collaboration between Stray Kids and Epik High’s Tablo, it finally happened, and what a song they gave us. Tablo joins the song in such a seamless way to give us some incredible bars in a song that is all about loving someone—the title is pretty telling. Like the letter “u,” the song is about constantly returning to the same person; the beginning and the end are the same. ‘U‘ has some of the most devastating lyrics, but it’s also full of devotion, and the gloomy, soft EDM beat is more than addictive. This is Stray Kids at their best, and Tablo elevates the song to another level of masterpiece.
