After taking over Lollapalooza Paris last summer, Stray Kids made history in Europe once again. On July 13 and July 15, Stray Kids headlined both the I-Days Milano and BST Hyde Park festival. They became the first K-Pop group ever to headline the festival in Milan, in front of a crowd of 70k people, and the second group to do so for the London festival for a 50k people crowd. And, as expected, their performances were worthy of all the hype. They were accompanied by NMIXX, who performed on both dates and gave us incredible vocals by covering unexpected songs and releasing an unreleased song. And for BST Hyde Park, they were joined by Alec Benjamin, Maisie Peters, and many other amazing artists in the lineup, making it even more a day to be remembered.
And if you missed it, don’t worry, we’re here to tell you about our highlights of both nights!
‘TOPLINE’
It’s wild to think that ‘TOPLINE‘ became a staple in Stray Kids’ setlist only a year ago when they performed it for the first time at Lollapalooza Paris. But we knew this one couldn’t be missed from the setlist. And it sure wasn’t: Stray Kids performed it twice (but more on that later.) The 5-STAR b-side is nothing short of iconic and gets everyone fired up and pumped with its addictive energy, impactful rap verses, and, of course, all the lyrics the crowd gets to scream at the top of their lungs with no care in the world.
Something shifts in the air every time this song is performed, but it’s even more impactful when it’s done for such big crowds. ‘TOPLINE‘ was made to be performed in Stray Kids’ historic performances. This is the right way to hear it live. Nothing comes close to it. And it was magic once again both in Milan and London.
‘Social Path’
It was a bold choice for Stray Kids to include a song initially released as a Japanese title track, but it was the right one. ‘Social Path‘ is one of the most special songs in Stray Kids’ discography. The lyrics ‘Gave up my youth for my future‘ perfectly embody how this song is all about the sacrifices they had to make to get where they are and together as a group. It’s an ode to their hard work, their journey, their talent, their bond to each other, and their art. So imagine how much it hit when they performed this song with thousands of people screaming out every single word back to them. It hasn’t been an easy road, but it clearly paid off. And weekends like the one that Stray Kids spent in Europe this summer prove that they are one of the biggest groups right now.
‘Charmer’
There were many iconic and unexpected b-sides in the setlist for both festival days. ‘Charmer‘ was one of our favorite performances in the Maniac Tour but unfortunately didn’t make it into the Lollapalooza Paris setlist this year. So, to have this Stray Kids b-side back for both BST Hyde Park and I-Days Milano was a surprise we all loved. Stray Kids always bring a lot of energy by interacting with the public with their most hyped songs, but it’s also amazing to see them dance, and ‘Charmer‘ has to be one of our favorite choreographies. And as expected, the energy with ‘Charmer’ in a festival is off the roof. They’re performers, they perform.
‘LALALALA’
But if there has to be only one Stray Kids song perfect for a festival, it has to be their 2023 title track ‘LALALALA.’ This is one of those Stray Kids songs full of energy that makes you want to jump around and have the time of your life. It’s a song made to be performed live. They also took the chance to interact with the public instead of doing the choreography for most of the song, which made it even more special. That last chorus hit even more with such a big crowd. And you bet London and Milan gabo-ed and jago-ed like their life depended on it.
The Encore
Remember how we mentioned ‘TOPLINE’ was twice in the setlist? Well, yeah, the encore was all about ‘TOPLINE.’ And honestly, there is no better song to end the show on a high. If you thought the public was hyped, you would be even more surprised to see how hyped Stray Kids were during the encore, when all the energy came to its climax. They even pushed the crowd to chant ‘Chk Chk Boom’ in anticipation of their next comeback on July 19th.
The encore was already the big highlight of their date in Milan, but the encore in London was something else. They performed ‘TOPLINE,’ but they were so hyped, they also added ‘MEGAVERSE‘ and ‘Haven.’ They were jumping around, sending water to the crowd and each other, Bang Chan even took the time to go thank the ASL interpreters for their hard work during their performance, and there are simply no words to describe just how hyped Felix was. If there’s one moment of the show that embodies the magic of Stray Kids performing, the bond with their fans, and the energy and uniqueness they bring to the scene, it’s their encore. We can’t think of a better group to do history this way than Stray Kids.
