Oh, what a blessing to be reliving another era of our Pop-Punk Queen, Avril Lavigne!
It seems like it has become her mission to remind all the marquee stars taking over the pop-punk scene today to not forget where it all started. From Machine Gun Kelly and blackbear to her skater boy MOD SUN, Avril Lavigne has checked yet another box on her list of collaborations with this YUNGBLUD feature. And let’s not forget that one of the writers and producers of ‘I’m a Mess’ is none other than Blink-182’s very own Travis Barker!
Starin’ at the pavement alone
Wishin’ I was on my way home to you…
If you liked listening to ‘Avalanche,’ ‘Dare To Love Me,’ and ‘Flames,’ you’ll immediately fall in love with the slow burn that ‘I’m a Mess’ is. The song starts softly with Lavigne riding a skateboard and YUNGBLUD walking down a London street, albeit in different frames. But there’s also a black balloon flying high in both the frames and of course, it resembles the ones on the Love Sux album cover (cough, deluxe edition, cough).
Dom’s vocals are as commendable as ever too, and he gels surprisingly well with Avril, given how different the textures of their voices are. The climax is undoubtedly our favorite part of the song as Avril takes her seat by the piano letting out those harmonies, and Dom unleashes the full power of his voice with those intense kohl eyes. And did we mention how hard it was to take our eyes off Avril’s new hair? Bless you, for doing a fine job with those scissors, Dom! Check out YUNGBLUD giving Avril Lavigne a new haircut here if you can’t get enough of them already.
