Okay Tributes, we thought we couldn’t be any more excited when The Hunger Games team announced the castings for Lucy Baird and Coriolanus Snow. Boy, were we wrong because they have just turned the dial up to eleven! We have more The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes updates for you and they are juicy! With several big names added to the cast list and the first look at Lucy and Snow, we have so much to catch you up on. We better get going or the film will be here before we cover it all!

Viola Davis

Yes, you read that right! The celebrated and wonderful Viola Davis has joined the cast of the Hunger Games prequel! Viola will be joining the cast as the Head Gamemaker of the 10th annual Hunger Games which plays a large role in this story. Creative, cunning and formidable, we think Viola‘s nuanced acting and strong character work will make her the perfect Dr. Volumnia Gaul. This film is shaping up to potentially rival the perfect casting of the original series!

Hunter Schafer

This one we lost our minds at how perfect this casting seems to be. From Euphoria to Panem, we think Hunter Schafer is going to absolutely slay as Tigress Snow. With The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, we get to dive further into the backstory of the fashion designer and cousin of President Snow who was first introduced on screen in Mockingjay Part 2. We really think Hunter has the emotional grit, poise and elegance to perfectly carry off Tigress and we’re so excited to see her in a major film production. Hopefully this is one of many to come!

Peter Dinklage

If there is a successful movie franchise from Game of Thrones to the MCU, it’s likely Peter Dinklage has been involved. The 53 year old star carries such command of the stage and screen which makes him the perfect Casca Highbottom. Casca is a close confidant of Coriolanus Snow and is a vindictive and powerful man who is pulling a lot of strings in Panem. His character is intricate to the storyline and will be very interesting to see how it pans out on screen. Every sentence we type is just getting us more hyped! The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has an incredible cast already!

And The Director…

Now this one will have The Hunger Games fans on edge. We’re ecstatic to put be able to put you out of your misery! Francis Lawrence will be returning to the franchise to direct the prequel! Everybody moved! Not only did he direct the fan favorite Catching Fire and both Mockingjay instalments, but Francis is a man after our musical hearts. His name may be familiar as the director of videos such as Beyoncé‘s ‘Run the World’ and even won a GRAMMY for Lady Gaga‘s ‘Bad Romance’ masterpiece!

First Looks!

As if we didn’t have enough big updates, we also have our first look at Rachel Zegler and Tom Blythe as Lucy Baird and Coriolanus Snow! The pair look cosy together at this picnic but fans of the book may have spotted a link to a big scene here. Picnics are all fun and games until they’re not! The two of them already are exuding chemistry and we can’t wait to see them bring these characters to life.
