The Weekly Buzz: Swarm Wishes For You

Welcome back to The Weekly Buzz, our recurring column that keeps you in the know about everything going on in the world of pop culture that you can’t afford to miss! From music to TV and everything in between. We’re buzzin’ about it.

ICYMI

Hottest news out of the honey pot this week was the race to greatness with the first-ever THP Artist of the Year Awards, where fandoms fought nobly across Twitter for bragging rights for their faves to reign supreme. Over 600,000 votes across ten days saw BTS emerge victorious after a neck in neck race with EXO. Both groups deserved the title, but there can be only one. We’ll see you all again next year for a new Twitter buzz!

Speaking of hot news, or at least hot new artists, we met Johnny Utah this week, the newest rising star on our radar, and trust us … if you haven’t checked him out, you should, because when he hits, we’re going to be saying “I told you so” to every last person we know.

Our favorite and yours, YUNGBLUD, made a few premium lists this week, including Notion Magazine’s Top Ten Artists to Storm 2020. Wbk though.

In movie news this week, James Wan announced a wrap on filming Malignant, The Grudge remake was announced to be released January 3, and none other than Mark Hamill let it slip that Harry Styles is a secret Storm Trooper in the newest Star Wars installment.

Tweet of the Week

We’ve covered Mr. Beast’s Tree Initiative, and we’re buzzed to let you know that the mission is officially accomplished! And, while we know there’s still miles to go before our planet is in a good place, this is an inspiring way to kick off the New Year!

K-Pop Corner

This week saw memorials across social media as K-Pop fans around the globe paused their daily lives to remember SHINee vocalist Jonghyun on the anniversary of his death. We will forever miss you, Jonghyun, thank you for everything and you did so well.

A battle royale ensued on Twitter between BTS, EXO, and Monsta X for the THP Artist of the Year, GOT7 sold out Thailand’s largest stadium two days in a row, and SEVENTEEN’s member Jeonghan announced a temporary hiatus until the end of December due to health issues. A speedy recovery to him!

BTOB’s member Sungjae will release project single 3×2=6 Part 1 on December 26. He will release two songs per month for three months, which certainly helps us understand that math.
