There’s no denying that TXT have killed it in 2021. The band have really stepped it up a notch and have proven why they are front runners and pioneers of 4th gen K-Pop, with next-level performances, a jam-packed schedule, and the global success to validate all their hard work. As 2021 winds down, we’re rewinding and looking at all the ways TXT have had incredible success and made this year their own.
[apple_music_ad artist=”Tomorrow X Together”]
From fashion to TV show hosting, to of course, music, TXT have truly been at the top of their game. All five members are all-rounders with heaps of talent, plus they have the group chemistry and forward-thinking to be able to pull off high concepts. In 2021, TXT gave us a full album, an album repackage, two Japanese releases, plus a shedload more of stuff on the side. Anyone else feeling like they should be doing more when they see these guys?
TOMORROW X TOGETHER got their year off to a big start, releasing their very first Japanese album STILL DREAMING back in January. The album was their third consecutive number one on Japan’s Oricon Music Chart and even charted on the Billboard 200, an especially impressive feat for a Japanese-language K-pop album as those aren’t promoted in the U.S.
Yeonjun At New York Fashion Week
So, that was January, now we’re in February, and of course, TXT didn’t slow their pace. Eldest member, and 4th Gen It Boy, Yeonjun walked at New York Fashion Week for Korean brand UL:KIN. Plus, he then collaborated with the brand on a clothing line. TXT as a group are all well known for their style, especially Yeonjun, and he did an incredible job of representing TXT on this global stage, not to mention looking like *that* whilst he did so.
The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE
Then came The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE at the end of May, TXT’s second full studio album. FREEZE was led by one of the best K-Pop singles of the year, ‘0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)’ featuring Seori, a guitar-driven song that signaled TXT’s new use of rock influences in their music, style, and performances. Plus, the song was co-written by BTS’ RM, so, pretty much a guaranteed banger tbh.
The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE reached number five on the Billboard 200 album chart, a stark increase from its predecessor Minisode 1: Blue Hour reaching number 25 just seven months prior, which shows just how rapidly TXT’s global popularity is expanding. Also on FREEZE was ‘Magic,’ the groups first all-English track, and all-around pop-banger. ‘Magic’ gave the group the opportunity to expand their promotional activities in America, with incredible performances on the likes of The Late Late Show with James Corden and Good Morning America.
An honorable mention: we literally could not talk about TXT’s success in 2021 without mentioning the ‘No Rules’ dance practice. So. Here you go:
Yeonjun As Artist Of The Month
In July of this year, Yeonjun was chosen as Studio CHOOM’s Artist Of The Month. He absolutely killed the performance, to ‘Watermelon Sugar’ by Harry Styles and ‘Blow’ by Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton, and Bruno Mars and did a great job of representing the band on the show. Plus, we’re always gonna be fans of any TXT and Harry Styles crossover.
The Chaos Chapter: Fight Or Escape
Repackaged album The Chaos Chapter: Fight Or Escape was a truly elite tier era for TXT. Not only did we get the incredible emocore mix of ‘0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You),’ we also got our first ever TXT fan song – ‘MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari).’ Then, of course, we can’t forget one of the very best title tracks of 2021, ‘LO$ER=LOVER.’ Fight Or Escape saw yet another influx of baby MOA and TXT’s 2021 success just kept on coming!
Kiss The Radio
In October, Day6’s Young K began his enlistment in the Korean military, meaning that his radio show, Day6 Kiss The Radio aka Dekira, was without a host. For a week, TXT stepped in and MOA were thrilled. TXT as guests on Dekira is already elite tier content, they seem super comfortable there, so it was so much fun to see them take the reins for a little while!
Soobin’s Finale On Music Bank
In the autumn, we sadly saw the end of Soobin’s time as MC on Music Bank. Soobin’s hosting has given us some of our favorite TXT moments ever, from Taehyun and SHINee interactions, to Soobin somehow forgetting that he’s in the band! Plus, we loved seeing just how much other idols enjoyed being interviewed by Soobin and Arin. Truly the end of an era!
Yeonjun X ENHYPEN
In October, we got a TXT member featuring on another artist’s track for the very first time! And who better to do that with than labelmates ENHYPEN? ‘Blockbuster’ from their debut full-length album DIMENSION: DILEMMA opened a new chapter for both TXT and ENHYPEN, and MOA and ENGENE were both enthralled by the track – we really hope to see all members of TXT collaborating with other artists ASAP! Plus, a little bonus, we really, truly, can’t believe we got a TXT x ENHYPEN collab stage at KBS Song Festival, including a cover of BTS’ ‘Fire!’
TXT, obviously ended their year in style, and in a lovely full-circle moment, with the release of Japanese EP Chaotic Wonderland, including Japanese-language versions of ‘0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You),’ this time featuring Lilas Ikuta, and fan song ‘MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari).’ Most excitingly, it included the beautiful ballad ‘Ito,’ which was the perfect way for TXT to round out their year.
We couldn’t be happier about all the success TXT have had in 2021; they deserve all that and more! We also have to give honorable mentions to their OST ‘Love Sight’ and first-ever full concert ACT:BOY, they’ve had so much success this year we can’t even write about all of it. Now, MOA just have to wait and see what our boys have in store for us in 2022 – we already know it’s gonna be a good year! What were your favorite TXT moments of 2021.
