20 Covers That Are Just As Good As The Originals

20 Covers That Are Just As Good As The Originals

Our idols (and yours, of course) are obviously out of this world talented! Every time they release something new, they dig their way further into our hearts.

But, aside from original songs, we started thinking about covers that snatched our wigs when we heard them. We’re talking about out-of-this-world, can’t believe they didn’t sing this, just-as-good-as-the-original covers. Nailing a song that’s not yours can be very difficult at times, but we put our heads together and chose our favorites to share with you. We feel we’ve compiled a list of some of the greats! So, without further ado, here are 20 covers that are just as good as the original tracks.

‘Iris’- Sleeping With Sirens

This song was originally a Goo Goo Dolls song, and we have loved it for years. But, Sleeping With Sirens crushed it, and we can’t seem to get enough of it! They added their own flair to it and created one heavenly rendition that sweeps us off our feet.

‘Tequila’- The Vamps

This cover of a Dan + Shay song blows our minds for a couple of reasons. One: The Vamps are not a country music band, but managed to pull off an out-of-this-world rendition, and two: James is singing instead of Brad (who is the band’s lead singer,) and we love that it showcases how each member of the band is equally as talented as the next.

‘Misery Business’- Machine Gun Kelly ft. Travis Barker

When we first heard about this Paramore cover, we weren’t sure he could pull it off. Not because he’s not talented, but because he, at the time, wasn’t known for being much of an actual singer. But, when we tell you we SCREAMED, we loved this cover so much! We were instantly impressed by MGK’s vocal talent outside of rapping, and honestly, we’re glad he switched to pop-punk. It’s more his style, and this cover was just one factor in proving that.

‘Circles’- Niall Horan

Niall is beyond talented, and hearing him cover Post Malone sends our feels into overdrive. We love that he put a spin on it and made it his own; it added a little bit of that Niall flair that we love in his music. Overall, Niall nailed it, and we can’t wait to hear more covers from him in the future. Who knows, maybe he’ll try something even more ambitious.

‘Smooth Criminal’- Alien Ant Farm

We know you might be shocked to see this one, it’s probably been a while since you thought about it, but this MJ cover deserves a spot on our list! This cover is bold and ambitious, and one of those WTF covers we never expected. It blew our minds the first time we heard it, and it still does to this day.

‘Fly Me To The Moon’- Young K (Day6)

This Frank Sinatra cover completely blows our minds. We keep going back to it over and over because Young K is so unbelievably talented, and we are in love. He showcases his astronomical talent on this cover with sultry vocals, and we’ll never get tired of listening to it.

Troublemaker’ Narachan (M.O.N.T)

Our love for M.O.N.T grows every day. They are incredibly talented, and we think Olly Murs would agree with us. This cover of his song ‘Troublemaker’ is solid gold. Narachan’s vocals are impressive on the track, and keep us coming back for more!

‘10,000 Hours’- Jungkook (BTS)

ARE WE GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT?! Jungkook’s vocals on this track are out-of-this-world, and we can’t help but fall in love with him even more. His version holds up the emotional aspect of the song while adding on a personal touch through the passion we can hear in his voice. It’s unbelievable, and we are obsessed with it.

‘We Are Young’- Little Mix

The queens of our heart, Little Mix, completely smash this cover. Their vocals are breathtaking, and we can’t help but be mesmerized by every note. This cover gives us goosebumps each time we listen to it, and that’s often because of how amazing it is.

‘Killer Queen’- 5 Seconds Of Summer

5SOS 1000% nail this cover. They knew better than to change the classic track too much, so, while still upholding the integrity of this song, they added their spin and set it free into the world. This cover was also for charity, and they did an outstanding job of bringing Queen to life.

‘One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)’- One Direction

Another track for charity, the boys of One Direction, create a fun yet massively important video to go along with their rendition of such an anthem. It’s catchy, and fans went crazy for it at the time of its release. We still jam out to this on the regular, but who doesn’t?! Also, we miss them, please, excuse us while we cry.

‘Believer’- Kihyun (Monsta X)

Talent radiates from Kihyun as he sings on this cover of Imagine Dragons. We love to see his passion flow through him as he sings and puts his spin on the track. This song most definitely could not have been easy to cover, but he completely blows it out of the water.

‘Torn’- Neck Deep

We’re no strangers to stanning Neck Deep, but this cover of this popular Natalie Imbruglia song is just next level amazing. We love when our faves step out of their usual genres and try something new, and that’s just what they did, but of course, they added their own Neck Deep touch to it. It’s absolute perfection.

‘Kiwi’- All Time Low

All Time Low hasn’t failed us yet in the music department, and as Harry Styles stans, we fully approve of this cover. A stripped-down version of ‘Kiwi’ is something we never knew we needed until ATL did it, and they hit it out of the park. And Harry, if you’re reading this, PLEASE, CALL THEM BACK!

‘I Like Me Better’- Jaehyun (NCT)

We have been in love with this song since LAUV released it back in 2017, but Jaehyun’s voice adds something extra to it, and it’s got us saying, “my, oh, my.” His voice is as smooth as butter on hot toast, and admittedly, it gives us ALL.THE.FEELS. This cover is a necessity in life, like breathing; without it, we would not survive.

‘I Fall Apart’- FLETCHER

Another artist covering Posty, our girl FLETCHER is a talented goddess, and she brought her A-game with this cover. It’s phenomenal and showcases her talent effortlessly. We could honestly listen to her all day (maybe we do, you’ll never know.)

‘When The Party’s Over’ Lewis Capaldi

Billie Eilish is an icon, and when we heard Lewis Capaldi’s version of one of her most popular tunes, we were giddy to see how it would turn out. Just as suspected, Lewis crushed the cover and made us love the song more than we already did. He took the track and gave it the Capaldi touch, which we’re pretty sure is magic.

‘Lucky Strike’- Dreamcatcher

If we looked up perfection in the dictionary, this cover of Maroon 5 would be pictured right beside it. Not only are the vocals delightfully dreamy, but those choreographed dance moves are showstopping. Besides the obvious talent the girls of Dreamcatcher are showcasing, those aspects are what keep luring us back in for more.

‘Jolene’- Miley Cyrus

Miley is no stranger to country music, that is her roots after all, and Dolly Parton is her godmother (her fairy godmother if you want to be exact.) So, hearing Miley cover ‘Jolene’ was no surprise at all, and her owning it also was no surprise. We wouldn’t expect anything less, and we hope she covers more country songs in the future (fingers crossed for more Dolly!)

‘Watermelon Sugar’- HWASA (Mamamoo)

Can we just say WOW?! HWASA and her vocals are indescribable on this cover, it’s like an angel is singing, and we are living for it. A poetic and ethereal Harry Styles cover is one way to capture everyone’s attention, which she has done flawlessly. We’ve been blessed by this cover, and we’re not mad about it at all.

That is such an amazing line-up of artistic talent! These artists gave us everything our hearts desired with these covers.

An awesome list! I discovered some new songs to obsess over (right after I listen to Kihyun’s Believer cover one more time…)

trackback

[…] Mamamoo is back with pre-release single ‘Dingga’ and it couldn’t be more fun! ‘Dingga’ comes to us before the girl group’s 10th mini album Travel comes out in November. And ‘Dingga is all about retro. The music video captures the retro feel to a ‘T’ and the song is absolutely fun with a vocal-driven chorus and fun rap verses. It is so catchy that we need you to add the song to your playlist right now! Fresh Music Friday approved. […]
